Shivay slammed his office door shut, the impact echoing through the room like a thunderclap. His anger, a tightly coiled spring, finally snapped. The lighthearted conversation between Annika and Kavya replayed in his mind, each word a fresh barb. "Second date," "lunch date," "Akash Shekhawat" – the names seemed to brand him.
Kanika's words fueled his simmering resentment. After the engagement celebrations had died down the previous night, Kanika had entered Shivay's room, feigning innocence. "Shivay," she'd said, her voice dripping with saccharine sweetness, "I never expected this from Annika. Instead of helping with the engagement preparations, she was out on a date with Mr. Akash Shekhawat."
Shivay, engrossed in his work at the time, had been taken aback. "How did you know that?" he'd demanded, a flicker of anger igniting in his eyes.
Kanika had produced a photograph – a snapshot of Annika and Akash. Annika was laughing at something Akash had said, her eyes crinkling at the corners. Akash, in turn, was gazing at her with a warmth that sent a jolt through Shivay.
"Where did you get this?" he'd asked, a possessive edge creeping into his voice.
Kanika concocted a lie. "I was on a video call with Natasha, who was at a cafe," she explained. "They walked in, but they were too far away for a clear picture in the video call. So, I asked Natasha to take a photo and send it to me."
The truth was far less dramatic. Natasha had also been at the hospital and had seen Annika and Akash together. She'd snapped a picture and sent it to Kanika, simply curious if it was the same girl who'd insulted her at the party. Kanika, upon receiving the photo, saw an opportunity to manipulate Shivay's perception of Annika.
"Maybe it was a work meeting," Shivay had offered, a sliver of doubt battling the rising tide of suspicion.
"But don't you see, Shivay," Kanika had pressed, her voice laced with faux concern, "now that you're engaged, she's out of the picture. So, she's set her sights on him. After all, he's wealthy too. A poor girl like her will do anything to secure her future."
Shivay had simply nodded, dismissing Kanika with a curt wave of his hand. He'd considered calling Annika to confront her, but the idea of a face-to-face encounter had filled him with a strange apprehension. Today, upon learning of Annika's arrival at the mansion, he'd stormed in, ready for a confrontation. But as he overheard their conversation, a chilling realization dawned on him.
The seed of doubt Kanika had planted had taken root, blossoming into a full-grown suspicion. In his mind, Annika had transformed into a gold-digging opportunist, willing to manipulate any man for his wealth. The confident, self-assured woman he'd encountered previously was now a mere facade, masking a desperate need for financial security.
Two months had passed since the misunderstanding at the Oberoi mansion. The flicker of hope that had ignited in Shivay's heart for Annika had been extinguished, replaced by a wall of suspicion.
Meanwhile, Annika and Akash had developed a strong friendship. After news of Shivay's engagement broke, Akash had confessed his feelings for Annika. However, Annika, unable to move on from past emotional turmoil, had gently declined his advances. Respecting her decision, Akash remained a close friend, often visiting Annika at the hospital when she was with Rohan. This fostered a bond between him and Annika's siblings.
Annika's professional career continued to thrive. While offered numerous event management opportunities, her loyalty remained with the Oberois. She still organized events for them and frequently visited Dadi, Om, and Rudra, often bringing Kavya along. They all cherished their time with her. Last week, Annika even hosted a celebration for Rohan's recovery, where Dadi, Om, Rudra, Shreya, and Akash all joined in the festivities. This gathering solidified a newfound friendship between Rudra and Rohan.
The only fractured relationship was with Shivay. They studiously avoided each other, resorting to heated arguments whenever forced to interact. Their misunderstanding, fueled by miscommunication and mistrust, had only deepened over time. Neither made an effort to bridge the growing chasm between them.
Annika with Kavya has arrived early today in Oberoi Mansion. Excitement crackled in the air as Annika bustled around the Oberoi mansion, preparing a surprise party for Priyanka's triumphant return after winning the 'Diva Fashion Show.' Laughter bubbled from Priyanka's room as Kavya helped her unpack. Annika, perched precariously on a stool, was about to secure the final ribbon loop on a pillar when disaster struck. The stool wobbled beneath her, sending a jolt of panic through her. Before she could react, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her back from a potentially embarrassing tumble.
Annika's eyes flew open to meet Shivay's gaze, a flicker of surprise momentarily replacing the usual tension. His hand remained protectively around her waist, their bodies momentarily pressed together. Time seemed to stand still, the playful banter and sounds of preparation fading into the background.
An awkward silence descended upon them. Annika quickly regained her composure, a touch of defiance in her voice. "Thank you," she said, pushing herself slightly away.
Shivay gaze lingered for a beat longer than necessary. "Careful there," he finally murmured, his voice betraying a hint of concern he wouldn't readily admit. The usual edge in his voice was softened by the unexpected turn of events. He then released her arm, a hint of unease flickering across his features. Their eyes met again, a silent question hanging unspoken between them. Was this a chance encounter, or something more? The air crackled with unsaid words and unresolved feelings.
Before either of them could break the silence, Kavya's voice sliced through the tension. "Annika di, where are the fairy lights? We need to get these hung up!" she chirped, oblivious to the charged atmosphere.
Annika, grateful for the interruption, turned to her sister. "They're right here, Kavya. Let's get this party started!"
The surprise party for Priyanka was a resounding success. She was showered with gifts and well-wishes from the departing guests. As the last goodbyes were exchanged, everyone settled back into the living room, Annika and Kavya among them.
Pinky broke the comfortable silence. "Annika," she declared, "it's about time you stopped organizing events for a while."
Shock rippled through the room. Before Annika could even stammer a question, Kavya jumped in, her voice laced with concern. "Aunty Pinky, do you not enjoy our work anymore? Were you thinking of having someone else organize your events?"
Pinky chuckled, dispelling the tension with a wave of her hand. "Oh, Kavya, don't be so dramatic! It's not that at all. With just two months left until Shivay's wedding, Annika should be focusing on that. It's going to be a grand affair, with all the most important people attending. I want this wedding to be the talk of the town, a true masterpiece. So, I thought it would be perfect for Annika to handle the preparations. This would also be her first time managing such a large-scale event, wouldn't it be a great experience?"
Kavya, ever the enthusiastic supporter, beamed. "Don't worry, Aunty Pinky," she chirped. "This wedding will be the talk of the town for years to come! A true masterpiece, indeed."
The announcement of the wedding sent a tremor through both Annika and Shivay. Annika, convinced she had moved on from Shivay, was surprised by the unexpected pang of hurt that echoed within her. Shivay, on the other hand, grappled with confusion. The past two months had been spent in a charade, using Kanika's company as a shield to mask his true feelings for Annika. Now, faced with the imminent reality of marrying Kanika, a woman he felt nothing for, a hollowness settled within him. He couldn't explain the resistance that had sprung up within him, a force pushing back against the arranged marriage that had always been the plan.
