Under suspicion

Chapter two: Out of her depth.

She leaves the room and heads down the corridor into a large office with several desks and a white board. She realises that Jason and Amanda are waiting for her along with another man.

Her mind races..."Who is that guy,...and What on earth am I doing here?".

As she walks toward them Jason smiles in a greeting. Suddenly the man goes toward the locker room and yells "You lot get in here, it's time for the meeting".

Everyone starts Talking excitedly and heads into the office and sits down.

The man stands in front of them all and faces each and everyone of them including Grace.

Grace was unsure of what to do, weather to sit down or stand. She bites her lip nervously looking at everyone staring at her.

The man starts to speak "Good morning." He adds "Most of you know me but for those of you that are new my name is James Benedict".

He smiles at Grace. "But some of you know me as Director Benedict." He nods at Jason and gestures him to step forward. Jason smiles at his colleagues. "I am Special Agent Jason Ridley.

He puts his hand on Angela's shoulder. "And this is Special Agent Angela Rivers.

He adds "Now let's get down to business, as you all know we recently arrested a drug dealer named George Ryan".

He whispers to Grace "Have you still got that file?".

It takes a second for her to realise he is talking about the file still in her hand.

She must have carried it all that time. She nods and gives it to him. "Thanks".

He turns to his colleagues again. "Now, What we have here is Operation Justice."

He continues "The plan is to go undercover and see if he leads us to the rest of his gang so we can bring their entire operation down."

One of his colleagues speaks "And who has been chosen to go undercover exactly?".

He smiles "I was getting to that."

He brings Grace closer to him. "This is Grace Morris." He adds "In answer to your question, She will be going undercover."

Everyone in the room yells in uproar. "What?! She's not even a cop"!.

The director James Benedict yells loudly to be heard "ENOUGH!" People start to quieten down. "Things will be explained in due course, What matters is taking these guys off our streets." The police officers nod in agreement.

The director speaks again "Off you go and get ready Special Agent Ridley will brief you in a few moments." Jason nods at them "I'll meet you all in the locker room."

Jason and the director and Angela turn to Grace. "I still don't understand, what you want me to do". Jason shrugs "We were hoping you could get to know George Ryan."

Grace frowns "Get to know him how?". The director James Benedict smiles "Make friends with him,flirt with him." He adds "Whatever it takes."

The director and Jason and Angela turn to leave when Grace yells "Wait! How did you find me exactly?"

The three of them turn around. Jason walks toward her and places his hand on her shoulder "We found you on Crimint."

He continues "We know about your criminal past and your dream is to be a cop is that correct?."

She nods "But that's my past, I'm not in that type of game anymore and I don't want to go back to it either."

Jason sighs "We can't force you Grace but we really need you to do this." He smiles "Imagine by doing this you're protecting thousands of families from years of heartache that drugs cause."

"I...I'll think about it." Jason and the director grin at her. Jason pats her shoulder "Good girl." Angela smiles assuringly and leaves with the others.

Grace spends time walking around the office and looks out the window to the view. She keeps asking herself Could she really do this? Could she really go back into the game?.

It would be dangerous of course. But what choice did she have? Everyone was all ready and waiting. And this was her chance to do something good. She takes a deep breath and bites her lip.

She leaves the office and goes down the corridor into the locker room where everyone is waiting. "Ew is this where you do all your meetings when you're in a rush?!" Jason turns around to see her in the locker room doorway.

She smiles at him "I can think of better places to have an emergency meeting than a smelly boys locker room." She quickly looks at the others and adds "No offence". Jason grins at her "None taken".

The director speaks "So you all know what you gotta do?" People nod. "Keep your eyes on Grace and George Ryan as much as you can."

Jason turns to the others "Keep your comms open and every entrance and exit covered no matter where we go."

The director nods "Alright it's time to move out, everyone in their vehicles immediately." He adds "When it's time to move, we will tell you through the radio. Let's keep our eyes and ears open people!" James steps by to let the director leave.

The director smiles at them "You are dismissed." The director leaves. Jason turns to Grace. "Follow me."

He takes her to another office. It was bland and disgusting. The colour scheme didn't appeal to Grace at all! The entire office was in fact covered in cream.

Jason sees some gear on the table. "Come here Grace."

She does as she is told and he fits an ear piece inside her ear. "This is just for the first part of the operation okay? All you have to do is establish a rapport with him and then when he starts to trust you..."

She nods "yes?"

"Get rid of the ear piece and any other gear that connects you to us." He adds you can keep the phone."

She nods at him to show she understood what she had to do.

They head back to find The director. They arrive at a door and there is a silver lock on the door. There is a kind of round circle.

Jason puts his eye in front of the circle and it scans his eye and the door opens. They enter the room and find him in a large oval room filled with televisions and people on computer and wearing com sets. "Ah Grace..Welcome to our operations room."

She smiles and looks around in awe.

"Now Grace you know what you have to do?"

She nods "Yes sir."

Jason looks at the director "I've fully briefed her sir" he reaches into the desk next to him.

The file on George Ryan was lying there. It seemed that the director had been looking at it. "I want to check that we haven't missed anything, we don't want any nasty surprises."

Jason nods "No problem Director, there will be no nasty surprises I assure you".

The director scowls "There better not be, this is your operation."

He adds "If anything happens is on your head, do you understand?.

Jason nodded and he gives the file to Grace. "Everything you need to know is in here".

He adds "But I hope you won't need it." She frowns "Why?"

He looks at her "Because I'm hoping he trusts you enough to tell you himself." She nods and they both leave the room.
