### Chapter 10: The Engagement Announcement
Yn and Jin stood nervously as they faced Jin's grandparents, who were ready to make the engagement announcement. The ballroom quieted as Jin's grandfather, Chairman Kim, cleared his throat to speak.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Chairman Kim began, his voice carrying a weight of authority. "We are gathered here to celebrate a significant event in our family's history. Today, we announce the engagement of my grandson, Kim Seokjin, and Ms. Yn."
The room erupted in applause, and Jin turned to Yn with a reassuring smile. They exchanged rings, and to solidify their act, they shared a light kiss. The audience applauded even louder, some genuinely happy, others merely polite.
Jin's grandmother, Hae Won, stepped forward and began introducing them to various relatives. Finally, they reached Kim Namjoon and his wife, Ryujin.
"Yn, this is my cousin Namjoon and his wife, Ryujin," Jin introduced.
Ryujin greeted Yn warmly. "It's such a pleasure to meet you, Yn. I've heard a lot about you."
"Thank you, Ryujin. It's lovely to meet you too," Yn replied, feeling a bit more at ease with Ryujin's kindness.
Just as they were beginning to converse, Namjoon interrupted, pulling Ryujin away. "Excuse us," he said curtly, dragging Ryujin with him. Yn noticed the helpless look in Ryujin's eyes and decided to follow them discreetly.
She overheard their heated conversation in a secluded corner.
"Why were you being so friendly with her?" Namjoon hissed angrily.
"She's family now, Namjoon. I was just being polite," Ryujin replied, trying to keep her voice calm.
"Polite? She's not our ally, Ryujin. She's our enemy. She's the reason I'm losing all the property and the plans I had. The word I gave to the industrialist is useless now because Yn is engaged to Jin," Namjoon spat out bitterly.
Yn's heart sank at Namjoon's words, but she remained hidden, listening carefully.
Ryujin tried to reason with him. "Namjoon, please. This hostility isn't good for anyone. We should try to work together as a family."
"Family? Don't be naive. This isn't about family. It's about power and control," Namjoon said before storming off.
Ryujin stood there, looking defeated. Yn decided to approach her.
"Ryujin," Yn called softly.
Ryujin turned, surprised but grateful. "Yn, I'm so sorry you had to hear that."
"It's not your fault," Yn said, gently placing a hand on her arm. "Let's go back inside."
They returned to the ballroom, and the rest of the engagement party continued without further incident.
Later that night, Yn and Jin found themselves on the terrace, enjoying a peaceful drink under the starlit sky.
"How are you holding up?" Jin asked, his voice soft and comforting.
"I'm okay," Yn replied, taking a sip of her drink. "It's been a lot to process, but I feel... strangely at peace right now."
Jin nodded, his gaze thoughtful. "I know what you mean. Despite everything, being here with you feels calming. Like I can finally breathe."
Yn looked at him, feeling a connection she hadn't anticipated. "Jin, I know this started as a charade, but I think we make a good team."
He smiled, a genuine warmth in his eyes. "I think so too. And maybe, just maybe, we can turn this situation into something real."
Yn felt her heart flutter at his words. "I'd like that."
They clinked their glasses together, a silent promise of partnership and understanding, as they looked out over the serene night, feeling a sense of hope for the future.
