Ryan knocked at my door in the morning, offering to walk me to class. "Won't people get suspicious?" I query. Ryan agrees and slumps back down to his room. It was a sweet suggestion, but we had decided not to go public with our status just yet.
I sat beside Grace in Professor Hughes' class. She cleared her throat and announced our first serious assignment of the semester. "This semester we will be taking a deep dive into poetry, for your assignment I would like you all to get into pairs and create a minimum of 8 stanzas for a poem. This poem can follow any pattern we have studied so far. In two weeks you will present your completed poems to the class..." She went on to ramble about the details and intricacies of the assignment, it was clearly an important one and I didn't want any distractions.
Grace turns to me after Professor Hughes finishes speaking and asks excitedly, "Y/N, wanna be partners?"
As much as I wanted to be with Ryan I knew he would make me lose focus, it was always hard to get work done with him around, "Yes, I'd love to." I smiled and Grace turned back to the front happily. I looked over and saw Ryan, he looked a little dejected, though people quickly started to swarm him. It was becoming well known he was a good writer amongst the people in our class.

We joined Jon and Spencer for lunch, Jon slyly passed a note to me under the table. "How did the date go? ;)" How did Jon know about the date? I hadn't told him we ended up going out last minute. It continued to baffle me how Jon managed to meddle in literally everything I did as it related to Ryan.
I mouthed to Jon, "How did you know?" and he looked at me, then Ryan, then back at me. Oh my god , Ryan told him. Jon lets out an innocent grin and bites into his food, as if nothing shady was going on. I look back at him with frustration painted on my face.
"And then, when I got back from swimming, my laptop was on the floor in bits . No one says they know what happened, I suspect it was my cat though..." Grace rambles away about her weekend, it sounded pretty chaotic. "Thank god I back up all my files" She continues to speak whilst chewing on her food, "Y/N, we're gonna have to do the poetry assignment on your laptop until I get a new one." Well, that goes without saying. I nod in agreement as we sit and decide on a day to work on it.
"Woah woah woah, you guys can't work after school, we have band practice." Jon butts in.
"Classwork takes precedent Jon, I'll find some other time to practice." I respond, Jon looked less than thrilled, he turned to Ryan.
"Guess that goes for you too huh?" Jon asks, Ryan nods, chewing quietly. Jon sat in a huff, who would've thought our classes would actually start assigning work? I think to myself sarcastically, it had only been a matter of time before juggling classwork and the band upped in difficulty.
"We could start practising during lunch breaks between classes?" Spencer suggested. It did seem like that would end up being the only time we were all free. Jon agreed hesitantly, less than thrilled.

After lunch I pulled Jon to the side, wanting to question him about what exactly he knew about me and Ryan's date on Sunday.
"Oh that ? Lucky guess." Jon shrugged it off calmly and tried to walk away, I grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
"Bull shit it was luck, Ryan told you didn't he?"
Jon shifted in place, his silence being a quiet admission of guilt. I was the one that let it slip that we were dating first I supposed, but what would incite Ryan to tell Jon about yesterday? Jon finally answered as I gave him a glare that shot deep through his skull, "Yeah, he did." I urge him to continue, not wanting to let it go, "He asked for advice, that was all."
