My phone buzzes off the nightstand with a thud and I jump awake. It was a text from Grace,
Grace: "Ryan's asking to talk to me before class today, what do I tell him?"
Y/N: "Don't say anything yet, just listen, lmk what he says."
He's probably planning on telling Grace about everything that happened, I know she isn't going to abandon me at least, but this could end up making things seriously awkward for the three of us until something is figured out.
I got ready to leave and head out, Spencer spotted me by the dorm entrance as I was leaving and joined alongside me as we walked to campus. "You know what's up with Ryan? He wasn't himself last night, I don't think he slept at all." Spencer asked while he walked at my side.
I hesitate to answer, "No clue." I lied, it seemed like regardless of whether I wanted to or not, people were soon going to find out about what had happened. The best I could hope for was that I could tell my side first, I just had to figure out what that was exactly. How do I defend what happened without outing Grace? By not saying who it was with it made me seem more suspicious. "How's the melody going with Jon?" I ask, changing the subject.
"Really good, it feels so free to create our own stuff, and Jon's crazy talented when it comes to composing melodies, we can't wait to show you." Spencer had cheered up at the topic, it was nice to know that some things were normal at a time when everything felt so broken.
I waved goodbye to Spencer and saw Ryan and Grace chatting by the gates, I made my way over to them but Grace shook her head at me. Ryan looked away, not showing his face. I didn't know what he had said to her, but she at least didn't seem upset with me, not that she would be since she was the only one who knew fully what was going on. I guessed I would be alone in class today.

I sat down next to some students I had never spoken to before, they seemed cool enough and made space for me beside them. We exchanged names, they were called, Lucy and Kayla. Apparently, they had both met during the opening tour of the school and had stuck with each other since. They didn't stay all that far from me either, in a dorm building just across from mine. It could be good to get to know some new faces, and when we started talking, it seemed they knew Grace too.
"How come you aren't sitting with Grace today?" Kayla asked.
"Long story, but, how do you guys know Grace?" Kayla and Lucy looked at each other and stifled giggles, like it was a secret I couldn't yet be in on.
"She sat with us at lunch the other day." Lucy pinches Kayla's side to keep her quiet. So they're Grace's new friends, they must've met in class sometime when I wasn't paying attention, I don't know when else they would've had time to meet. The two seemed to come as a duo but they were nice enough. They offered that I join them at lunch too but I declined, I still had band practice to go to. Without Grace it was sure to be some kind of shitshow.

Ryan kept up a quicker pace than me on the way to the music room, not wanting to walk by me, I couldn't really blame him, especially not for what he thought. When I caught up to him I saw from a distance Ryan storm past and butt Jon out of the way with his shoulder. Jon and Spencer stood for a moment in shock, while I approached.
"What's up his ass?" Jon cradled his shoulder.
"I'm sure we'll find out." Spencer beckons us in and follows along behind. I'm sure they will find out, though I wish they wouldn't. Ryan stood in the corner of the room tuning his guitar bitterly, like it were the most tedious job in the world.
