Makoto let himself get dragged out of the dining hall by Sayaka. This past day had been... something. It felt like a weird dream. Luckily, Taka and Byakuya tried to get everyone together with these meetings.
While Makoto had expected that from Taka, he hadn't from Byakuya. He had seemed very... standoffish when Makoto had first met him. But maybe that was because of the weirdness of their situation. After all, he was helping Taka now. And with a talent like Byakuya's that made sense. Makoto had probably just judged him a bit too early.
But despite the niceness that came with the new morning meetings, Makoto could feel that Sayaka was nervous, albeit slightly. So, when she asked him to go to somewhere to get something to defend herself with, he didn't protest.
It didn't take all too long before they were standing in front of the gym, in the room with the many trophies.
"Here we go. I might be able to find something here to protect myself with..." Sayaka mumbled, though Makoto could still hear her. "Yeah, I'm sure I'll find something in the display case I can use."
Thay caused Makoto to look at the display case, hoping to find something for Sayaka. It was mostly filled with trophies, which weren't exactly good weapons. But then Makoto saw it on the bottom of the display case- a golden sword.
Though, as he took a slightly closer look, it seemed to be just a replica sword. But it was still the most useful thing in the display case, so he picked it up.
"Jeez! I barely touched it and I got that gold stuff all over my hands," Makoto said with a slight frown, looking at his now gold covered hands. He hadn't expected for the gold covering to come off that easily- it was all over his hands.
"Wow, you're right. Your hands are totally gold! Even just for self-defence, I think it's a little..." Sayaka trailed off, though it wasn't hard to guess what she meant. It really was a bit excessive.
Makoto shrugged slightly, "Well, it's still better than nothing, I guess."
"You should take it with you! It might help liven up your room a little," Sayaka responded, suddenly smiling slightly.
Him? But weren't they here for Sayaka?
"Really? You think so? But weren't we here for you?" He asked, his confusion clear. He didn't really understand why Sayaka would want him to have the replica sword.
"It's fine! But I guess you'd better be careful taking it back. You should wrap it in newspaper or something," She suggested, still with that same smile. She then looked around the room. "I don't see anything I could really use for self-defence..."
That was true. There wasn't anything else here that could be used in somebody's defence. But Makoto couldn't have Sayaka leave unprotected. Even if she wanted him to have the sword, there must be something he could do to make her be more protected...
"H-Hey, don't worry about it! It's not like you need it right away, right? Plus, if anything were to happen... When the time comes...I'll protect you," He said quickly, unsure of what else to say. If there wasn't anything in the room that could protect Sayaka, Makoto would have to do it himself.
Sayaka had a shocked expression on her face. "You'll...protect me?" She said as a slight blush spread onto her cheeks. It didn't take long for her to smile after that. "Thank you for saying that... If I've got you on my side, I guess I don't need a weapon after all!"
Makoto just smiled in return and blushed slightly as well- he wasn't used to being complimented like that. Not to mention that Sayaka's smile made Makoto feel like he could do anything- she really was amazing.
