Chapter 17
The car sped past Tae, leaving a trail of dust.
He lifted his head and saw the blurry tail lights of the Rolls-Royce in the darkness.
Was that Jungkook's car?
He wiped the tears off his face, calmed himself down, and walked toward the house.
He saw the car parked in the courtyard when he arrived.
He waited outside in hopes of going in after Jungkook had gone to his room.
His eyes stung. He looked up at the stars shining brightly in the night sky.
It was a beautiful spring night.
Before he knew it, he had been standing outside for an hour.
The driver had already moved the car into the garage.
The lights in the living room were still on, but there was nobody in sight.
Taehyung felt normal, so he walked slowly into the house.
On the veranda on the second floor, Jungkook, dressed in a grey robe, was sitting in his wheelchair. The last dregs of wine sat at the bottom of his wine glass.
He had watched Tae the entire hour that he had stood outside in the cold.
He could not figure out the thoughts that would lead Tae to spend an entire hour out in the cold. He was so still that he could have easily blended in with the trees that stood next to him.Jungkook had met countless intelligent minds in his lifetime because they were the only people worthy enough to stand by his side.
However, Taehyung was an exception.
He did not consider his bright because he had provoked him despite knowing what kind of man he was.
He was an extremely foolish man.
Seeing him miserable, however, affected his mood in a peculiar way.
It was a feeling that he had never felt before.
...
Maybe it was because of the cold wind, but Taehyung's head felt heavy by the time he got to his room.
He took out a thick blanket from the closet, wrapped himself in it, and fell into a deep slumber.
He sweated all night, ridding himself of the chill from the night wind.
When Tae woke up the next morning, aside from feeling a little sticky, he was in relatively good spirits.
He took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and went downstairs.
He followed the smell of food to the dining room, and Mrs. Min immediately served him breakfast.
"Has he had breakfast?" Tae asked.
"No, Master Jungkook hasn't come down yet."
Hearing this, Tae picked up his glass of milk and a piece of toast, then began to wolf down his breakfast.
He was done eating in under five minutes.
"Are you that afraid of him, Sir?" Mrs. Min teased.
"I'm not afraid... I just don't want to see him," Tae said, then lifted his chin slightly and added, "Seeing him makes me uncomfortable."
"You'll be fine after spending a little more time together," said Mrs. Min. "Will you be coming home for lunch?"
"I won't. I have something to do on campus today, so I won't be having dinner at home either."
