Chapter 23 - Musical Detours

The school day had ended early when snow started falling, so the riders were spending time in their dorms. With no outdoor activities they could do, the students started getting bored pretty fast. While Rory spent his time playing video games, Isabel was in the gym doing a workout, and Ava and Layla were in the library having a study session. Valentina was in her room having a tea party with her Ruby Dorm friends, so that left Talulah with not much to do. Hearing the sound of a guitar playing, Talulah opened the door to Sophia's room to see her trying to write a song, before getting frustrated and crumpling up the paper.

Sophia - "Ugh! That's not right!"

Talulah - "Uh, hey, Soph. You okay?"

Sophia - "Hey, Talulah. Yeah, I'm fine, Ms. Primrose asked me if I could write a song for the winter gala, but I've been getting writer's block."

Talulah - "Can I help? I used to help the musicians in the castle with their new songs when I could."

Sophia - "Really? Yeah, that'd be great! Here's what I have so far."

Talulah took the crumpled up paper and looked over the lyrics, though she had to hide her confused face at the fact that none of the lyrics had any rhythm to them. Thankfully, Sophia didn't notice her expression as she was tuning her guitar, so Talulah grabbed a new sheet of paper and began writing. Almost immediately, Talulah had a melody in her head that she hummed while looking over the sheet of paper, oblivious to Sophia's surprised expression. Although she didn't know what lyrics she was going for, Talulah let the melody work for itself as she moved around the room to it. (I'm going to let everyone know that I can't write a song for the life of me, so I'm grabbing a song from Sofia the First [Don't judge me] that I'll use here. Obviously, I don't own any music used in this book, all rights go to their original writers and musicians.)

Sophia - "How do you already have a song in mind?! I've been working at this for hours!"

Talulah - "It's not really a song yet, just a melody. But to be honest, I'm not really sure...Wait, let me try something...The fire light is shining bright...while the snow blows cold outside..."

Sophia - "That's good! Here, let me try..."

Sophia and Talulah worked on the song from there, before Rory burst into the room and dramatically begged for his sister's help. At first, Talulah tried to say she was working with Sophia, but the two were quickly pulled away from Sophia's room as Rory dragged them into the common room. Talulah stood in complete shock a flutterbunny flew around the room with Rory's controller in its grasp, while Rory pathetically chased it around the room. Sophia let out an unamused groan before jumping for the flutterbunny, while Talulah managed to snap out of her state of shock and went to her room to grab a blanket. On accident, Sophia opened the door to Valentina's room, where the flutterbunny started making a mess and causing Valentina and her friends to panic. Hearing the sound of her friend yelling, Talulah quickly ran over to Valentina's room, where the flutterbunny was currently drinking from Delia's teacup.

Valentina - "Mendoza, you are gonna pay for this! Talulah, help me!"

Talulah - "I got this, you guys! Here, sweet thing. Yeah, that's a good boy!"

Talulah managed to convince the flutterbunny to jump into her blanket, where he snuggled himself tightly until he was comfortable. Hearing Talulah's soothing voice and being cuddled up in the blanket, the flutterbunny had managed to fall asleep, much to everyone's relief. One quick walk to the outdoor gardens later, and the flutterbunny was free to go as he pleased. With that situation taken care of, Talulah and Sophia went back inside to continue working on their song. But as they were making their way back to Sophia's room, Layla came running up to them in a panic.
