Chapter 23

(Y/n) lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling. It was another sleepless night for him. He had just woken up from another nightmare at home. Where he had jumped off a building and accepted his fate as he hit the ground. He can still feel the phantom pain from the concrete hitting him.

"Why do you accept death so easily?" Sukuna mutters, a mouth popping out on (Y/n)'s cheek. "I don't know, maybe because the sorcerers ordered it?" (Y/n) questioned, sounding unsure. The thought wasn't entirely untrue, as (Y/n) had easily accepted the outcome of being executed the day he ate Sukuna's finger. (Y/n) didn't want to die, but his overly good-natured heart thought his death would benefit more people than his life.

"That doesn't mean you should be suicidal you damn brat, the world would be a better place if more people like you were around," Sukuna argues, sounding angry. Flashes of Shibuya entered their shared mind, showcasing otherwise. (Y/n) flipped over and stuffed his face into his pillow, trying to cover up the images. "My actions in Shibuya say otherwise. I couldn't even save a single person there," he grumbled in his head.

"(Y/n), people are going to die," Sukuna said, sighing. "People will die regardless of how powerful you are. Your teacher, your friends, and even I can die and there's nothing you can do to stop it. You can just hope you do everything in your power and be ready for it."

(Y/n) felt like sinking further into his bed if he could. He knows Sukuna was right, but it doesn't mean he didn't like it. "If you die, I think I'd actually think about suicide," (Y/n) remarked in a serious tone. "Well, I don't see that happening any time soon. I'm not a king for nothing," Sukuna hums. The sentence was smug, but Sukuna's tone was soft.

(Y/n) rolled his eyes at Sukuna's words as he poked at his forehead, in turn poking Sukuna. "A king who got himself stuck as fingers," (Y/n) said in a teasing tone. "Listen, ya little shit I did that on purpose," Sukuna grumbled, taking over (Y/n)'s hand and flicking his forehead. (Y/n) let out a gasp out of slight pain and confusion.

"Wha-?! Why would you do that to yourself?" (Y/n) asked in disbelief. Then again, the thought of Sukuna fingerless made (Y/n) chuckle. "Cause the Era was boring and I wanted to see a new generation of sorcerers," Sukuna answers as if the answer was logical. "Did you expect to be stuck with me? Because clearly, I can easily beat you," (Y/n) boasted with a puffed chest.

"Alright brat when I get my own body we will fight," Sukuna challenged. (Y/n)'s eyes widen, realizing he just fucked up. "On second thought, I think you're fine without a body," (Y/n) said, sounding nervous. Sukuna cackled. "You're not getting out of this one brat, I want to see what you're made of!" Sukuna said gleefully.

(Y/n) cursed under his breath, knowing he could not defeat Sukuna alone. He should've kept his mouth shut. A knock on his door broke him out of his despair, realizing there were other people there. "Keep it down! Some of us are trying to sleep!" Grim yelled from the other side of the door. "I will skin that rodent," Sukuna hissed, now annoyed.

"You will not, I know we don't have a contract but he is still my friend," (Y/n) scolded the mouth in a hushed tone, trying to be quieter for Grim. "Speaking of contracts, we should make a new one, just in case something bad happens again," he suggested to the curse, hoping Sukuna agreed.

"What do you have in mind?" Sukuna asked, already not liking the idea. (Y/n) will surely add new rules and limitations on Sukuna, seeing as the curse kept finding loopholes to "protect" (Y/n). His vessel let out a hum in response, trying to think of reasonable rules. "Honestly, I liked what we had before. But, this time, I want to include boundaries since you don't really like people and I do. Maybe we like rock-paper-scissors each other whenever someone breaks our boundaries. If I win, you don't push them off, if you win, you can do your thing," (Y/n) suggested innocently.
