Chapter 7: Reconciliation

We walked together silently towards Tim Hortons.  When we passed the bus stop, it started to rain.  Such typical Vancouver weather.  Unfortunately, I left my jacket at school. but took my phone.  I started to shiver because I was quite wet from the soaking rain.

"Hey, take my jacket!" offered Josh, noticing I hadn't taken a coat with me.

"No, it's okay! It's not that far!"

"I insist, you're going to get sick!"

Josh took off his blue rain coat and hung it over my shoulders and then put the hood over my head.  I looked at him and he was only wearing his blue dress shirt.  The jacket was pretty big on me, and I felt like this could fit both Josh and I together.  Josh was starting to get cold, and I could tell.

I felt horrible seeing him like that, and I decided to take off the coat.

"What are you doing?"

"It's your coat! Don't get sick because of me...then I'll owe you something..."

"You won't owe me anything! It's important that you don't get sick before your birthday..."

I was shocked.  He did remember that it was my birthday in a couple days.  Things just unfolded before hand, and sadly it happened to be before my birthday. Maybe Josh wasn't as heartless as I was trying to convince myself.

"No, take it! I have an idea...but this is purely just to make you happy!"

Josh looked at me, confused.  I pulled off the coat and threw it at him.  He caught it and looked confused.  I told him to put it on, and he complied.  I then hugged his torso so I was in between him and the jacket.  That way, part of me would stay dry at least, and I wouldn't feel bad about Josh getting soaked.

Honestly, I missed being this close to Josh.  He was so warm, and hugging him felt like the right thing to do.

"Well this is new..." said Josh ruining the moment.

"Look, I'm just improvising.  This means nothing.  It's because you're so stubborn about the whole thing!" I argued back.

Josh wrapped his arm around my back and pulled me closer to him.

"There, that way its warmer too!"

The situation wasn't awkward because we did date for 8 months, but I didn't want these feelings to come back.  We used to walked to Timmy's together and if I ever forgot my jacket, he would pull me into a hug and keep me warm until we got into Timmy's so it was slightly weird reliving it all.

We continued to walk like this until we got into Timmy's.  As soon as we even approached Timmy's I ran inside and waited for Josh to follow.  He ran practically beside me though, so I didn't wait long. When we walked in, I stood in line and waited with Josh.  We looked absolutely terrible, but that didn't matter.

"What are you getting?" asked Josh.

Just as I was about to answer, Josh interrupted.

"Let me guess, your usual without the sandwich!"

"Yeah."

Josh walked up to the cashier and I followed him.  He ordered my Medium French Vanilla Cappucino, and then he ordered a Medium Hot Chocolate.

"Can I get a Vanilla Cruller too?"

"Sure!" said the till person.

"Oh, you don't have to!" I said to Josh.

"Well I already ordered it.  You said your regular!"

I felt touched that he did remember all the little details about me, but it was probably to tell his hockey friends everything.
