✿ Vaidehi✿
I woke up to the chirping of birds, rubbed my tired eyes, and realized he was nowhere to be found. I didn't expect him to wake up early, but he's always doing unexpected, annoying things.
Getting out of bed, I glanced at myself in the mirror before walking straight to the balcony. I scanned the garden, but he wasn't there either.
Am I forgetting something?
Didn't he mention visiting New York last night? But would he have really left this early?
I looked at the clock—it was only 6:30 and half the world was still asleep. How did I wake up this early today?
With nothing to do, I picked up a book from my nightstand and started reading. It was a story about a Mafia man who ends up loving the girl he had wanted to hate all his life. I didn't realize when the sun climbed higher in the sky. I finished the first book, already loving Tritain Cane.
Keeping it back in the stand, I glanced at clock. It was almost 7:30 now, and this man was nowhere in sight. Did he really go to New York? And without telling me?
Well, it doesn't matter. He can go wherever he wants. Why should I care? After all, neither of us wanted this marriage.
Convincing myself with these thoughts, I picked out my clothes and went for a quick shower. Coming out, I stood in front of the mirror, examining my appearance. My long, dark hair, still damp from the shower, cascaded down my back. I decided to braid it loosely, letting a few tendrils frame my face. My skin, naturally tan, glowed with a hint of pink from the warm water.
I chose a red suit that fit me perfectly, accentuating my slender figure. The color brought out the richness of my brown eyes. I wore small, delicate gold earrings that glimmered softly against my ears and carefully applied vermillion on my forehead, a symbol of my marital status, and finished the look with a small, elegant bindi.
Wearing my slippers and picking up my phone, I walked downstairs to make breakfast. Everyone was awake by now.
Papa was reading the newspaper, as usual, in his favorite chair. He looked up from the paper and smiled at me. "Good morning, baccha," he greeted warmly. I nodded back, saying, "Good morning."
In the living room, my siblings were fighting over something with pillows. I stifled a laugh as I glanced at Aahan, who was giving me his best innocent look. Of course, he had fought with Garv again.
Dadi was busy chanting and counting her prayer beads. I bowed, seeking her blessings, and she placed her hand on my head, still mumbling her chants.
I walked into the kitchen, took out the milk, and put it on the stove to make tea for everyone. The familiar, comforting aroma of brewing tea began to fill the air. I gathered the rest of the ingredients for breakfast, enjoying the quiet rhythm of the morning routine.
Ma was making parathas for everyone while I prepared other things. She looked at me and smiled warmly. Coming closer, she applied a small dot of kajal behind my ears to ward off the evil eye, a gesture filled with love and care. Then, she patted my cheek gently.
"How did you sleep, beta?" she asked, her voice soft and comforting.
"Well, Ma," I replied, returning her smile. "Just woke up a bit earlier than usual."
"I was going to wake you up, but Sanskaar stopped me, saying you slept late last night," she continued, her eyes twinkling with affection. I smiled in response.
Arranging the breakfast, we all sat down at the table. One of the best things about his family was that everyone served themselves, so I didn't have to wait on them and eat later. It felt more inclusive and relaxed.
