Tum yun mile ho jabse mujhe

Aur sunehri mein lagti hoon

Sirf laboon se nehi ab toh

Pure baadan se hasti hoon

Mere dil raatsa loori se

Sab hai tere hi hone se

Vaidehi

I waved goodbye to Birdie and finally settled inside the car after this man held the door for what felt like an eternity, all the while I was engrossed in conversation with her.

My poor husband

"Chale devi ji?" he asked, and I blinked my eyes in confirmation.

We were headed to his Nani's house, not too far from here. I couldn't help but feel a bit nervous about meeting new people—wondering how they would react to me and whether they would like me. However, knowing that all my family, including Ma, Papa, and everyone else, would be there put me more at ease.

"Did you remind Mahesh Kaka to water my plants?" I asked, and he nodded firmly, his veiny hands gripping the steering wheel.

"Yes, I've reminded him to water your plants, feed your friend, and clean the library. Anything else, Madam?"

I chuckled and facepalmed myself at him. Sometimes he behaves as if he's a genie on duty or something similar.

He was dressed in a white shirt, his preferred color, with his soft curls perfectly styled yet still tousled whenever the car picked up speed. His face was clean-shaven, and he wore a faint, almost imperceptible smile on his lips.

He turned to me, widening his smile, and I smiled back in return.

"How many people are there at Nani ji's house?" I asked, turning to him. His hair lifted and fluttered in the breeze as we drove, occasionally falling across his forehead in gentle waves.

In a sudden impulse, I ran my hand over his forehead, gently pushing the strands of hair away from his eyes. As soon as I realized what I had done, embarrassment flooded over me, and I nervously bit my bottom lip. I could feel my cheeks turning red.

Even he seemed surprised, coughing slightly and then refocusing on the road ahead.

Vaidehi, why did you have to do that?

I didn't turn my face towards him after that, choosing instead to focus on the window. I couldn't bear to embarrass myself any further. But his hair curls were so perfectly smooth—I wondered what shampoo he used.

Don't even think about it, Vaidehi. Who knows when the atom bomb will explode, right?

As we continued towards Nani ji's house, his presence seemed increasingly impossible to ignore, his intoxicating scent filling my senses. I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the four-feet rule , that was better. Trying to distract myself, I opened my phone, though I could feel his occasional glances in my direction.

"Are you feeling hot?" he suddenly asked, and I was taken aback, wondering why he noticed. "Your face is all red."

God! I had never felt more embarrassed in my life. My cheeks burned hotter, and I struggled to find words, feeling utterly exposed under his gaze.
