Chapter Forty: H-Terry-O

H-Terry-O

Acacia's POV

I hear glass shatter, now Aaron is screaming Jade's name. His voice sounds so desperate, definitely scared.

Footsteps echo throughout the hallway beyond the door, which means whoever is coming is walking fast.

The door swings open and three men that I haven't seen before step in. They're all dressed in white, and they have very ugly expressions plastered on their face. "Oh... Hey... Guys..." They take a step towards me and I shuffle my feet hopelessly in order move backwards.

The guy in the front pulls something out of his back pocket. It looks like a mini gun slash syringe, but I don't like it. I notice the glass of water and remember what Lauren said. Well it's not like I have many options.

I lurch forward and land on my chest, which hurts, but my fingers are wrapped firmly around the glass. When the guys are three feet from me I throw up my hand and toss the water at them.

Midair the water shifts from, well, water, to... A small black dude. "HEY!" He drop kicks the front guy, who is twice his size. The only reason this guy isn't on the floor is because the orderlies have no idea what the fuck is going on.

Neither do I.

Somehow, all of the guys in white end up unconscious on the floor. The black guy looks down at them and thumps his chest really hard. "You just got hit by some H-Terry-O!" He turns to me and smiles, showing his wide mouth and white teeth. "Hi. I'm Terry." I nod my head very slowly.

"I guessed... I'm Acacia."

If there were three shades of black, those of which being dark chocolate, milk chocolate and... We'll I guess there are only two. Terry is between the two shades. He has no more than maybe two inches on me, but his black hair adds a few inches. It's styled in a cube form, which is an interesting choice. His eyes are a pale brown, if that's possible, with specks of blue in them.

He's wearing a nurse's outfit, just like Lauren.

"How did your mutation work?" He smiles again, clearly very pleased with himself.

"I wasn't touching the ground baby, titanium doesn't work unless you're touching it." He winks at me and crosses his arms. "I've been here long enough to figure that out." A door slams closed and Terry's head whips in that direction. "Oh we gotta go. We gotta go now." He grabs my by the hand and pulls me out of the room.

Instantly, there's a surge inside of me. No cuffs, no titanium walls.

I'm a mutant again.

Two men run towards us, pulling guns from their holsters. "Hey!" They pull their triggers and Terry ducks, but I stretch my arms out and down, covering most of the hallway with my body.

I let the bullets hit me. They ricochet back at the guards and their bodies drop. Terry stands up straight from his cowering position and sees the bodies. "Dayum girl."

The hallway is clear, so now I take the opportunity to question my new friend. "What is going on?"

"Lauren said that your friend could help us break out."

"My friend?"

"Yeah, the crazy one with green eyes." Terry gives me an expectant look, but the guards took her away hours ago.

"She's... Over there." I say as I break into a jog towards the doors leading into the arena. Terry follows and stands behind me as I peer through the slim glass window.

I see Stryker with a smirk on his face. I see Aaron screaming, trying to break free of his restraints in the corner of the room. Blood is dripping from his mouth and joining course with his tears as he cries hysterically for Jade.

Then I see Jade's body between them.

"Shit... Jade..." I falter back from the window and Terry catches me with one arm.

"Is everything- Oh. That's the crazy one..." He says as he looks through the window. I nod my head with my mouth wide open, but no sound comes out. His shoulders drop as he looks to me for answers. Jade was his chance to get out of here. "What do we do now?"

Terry and Lauren have been here for too long. I need to get them out. "Go get Lauren. Quick." I push him in her direction and he nods before taking off into a sprint, which isn't very fast. He has short legs.

I stay by the door. I don't know what the hell I'm going to do, but I have to get Aaron.
