Casper's POV

I'm turning 19 tomorrow. I'm dreading it. Since being abandoned at birth, I've been stuck in an orphanage and you would think there isn't a place worse than here. Well, you'd be dead wrong because Holloway Institution exists and I'm being sent there without choice. I've heard horror stories about that hell hole and there's no way I'll set even one foot within those gates, so I'm running away tonight.

I'm an omega but I don't exactly look like one. Most omegas are lean, short and weak, but not me. I'm 5'10 and semi-muscular (there's nothing to do in this stupid orphanage so I worked out a lot in my room) and other omegas here have mistaken me for an alpha countless times, even though if you put me next to that "superior" species, it'd probably be obvious that I'm not one of them. I wouldn't know though since the orphanage I'm at is only for omegas and we've never been let out so I've never seen an alpha before. Betas went extinct a few centuries ago so our society is only made up of omegas and alphas.

Another reason why I'm unlike other omegas is because I don't have my heat cycle yet. Everyone else here got their cycle when they were 14-16 and have been taking suppressants ever since. The orphanage nurse said that I could be a defect (he didn't care to sugarcoat it) and brushed it off without giving me any medical attention. I swear this place is useless and is only running because of the money it gets from the government. Sure we have schooling, clothes, food and a place to sleep but we get treated like shit.

I found out that I'm being sent to Holloway a week ago and I've been planning my escape ever since. It's a bit of a jump from my window but I'd rather snap an ankle than be thrown into Holloway Institution. I don't know much but I've snooped around enough to know that it's worse than a prison. Every male werewolf is required to attend Holloway for 1 year as soon as they turn 19 by law. They leave when they turn 20 - the age of full maturity. It's a boarding school for further education on how to survive in and fight for your pack. Anything I learn there will be useless since I'm packless - another reason to add to the list of why I shouldn't go there on top of the fact that I'm an orphan and an omega. Holloway is filled to the brim with alphas and I've heard that they can be such vile creatures who treat omegas like toys. Good thing I'm fleeing.

There are 3 packs in our kingdom and 3 dorms to accommodate each one at Holloway: the Blood Pack, the Moon Pack and the Sun Pack.

The Blood Pack makes up 20% of the population and they founded the werewolf kingdom. The Royal Family comes from the Blood pack and they are the ones who ordered Holloway to be built all those centuries ago. Fuck them. All Blood wolves have royal blood and are genetically elite, even omegas. Blood alphas are the strongest and I've heard that their extreme blood lust makes them the most dangerous and destructive. They are usually calm unless provoked but their short tempers shouldn't be tested. Despite their vicious personalities, their loyalty is unmatched according to the history books I've read.

The Sun and Moon Pack were originally one as the Shadow Pack. They rivalled the Blood Pack's power until internal conflict arose. Some despised the dispute with the Blood Pack and wanted peace whilst others craved power. A civil war broke out and the Shadow pack split into the Sun and Moon Pack: the Sun wolves were compassionate whilst the Moon wolves were hungry for strength and blood. The Sun Pack outnumbered the Moon Pack heavily, so the Moon Pack sought help from the Blood Pack in return for their loyalty. The war ended when the leaders of all three packs signed a treaty to prevent further casualties. The Blood and Moon pack have been allies ever since.

The Moon Pack has a reputation for being even more violent than the Blood Pack. They're also known for their exceptional intelligence but they use it to be cunning. They make up 30% of the population. The Sun Pack makes up 50%. Sun wolves still hate confrontation. It's in their nature to be caring and empathetic. By no means are they weak, and even if they do falter in strength, they make up for it in number.

Anyway, that's enough about our kingdom. It's a fucked up world and I can't wait to leave it one day. Speaking of leaving, it's close to midnight and I need to put my getaway plan into action. I pick up my small bag full of clothes and I look out my open window. It's pretty high but the grass should cushion the fall. I look around one last time. I don't know what the world is like beyond these walls but I'll do whatever it takes to make sure that that world isn't Holloway.

One deep breath and I jump.

Uh oh.

I land hard and as soon as I do, the motion sensor lights illuminate the dark and alarms start ringing. Nothing seems to hurt so I start running, but before my eyes could even begin to adjust, I hear shouting. I've got to make it to the front gates. My heart seems to be in my ears and I can hear how fast it's beating. My legs start to burn but I keep going. I'm running as fast as I can. I see the gates. I'm nearly there. So close. I've got to get out.

Something just jabbed me. I feel numb. I think I'm falling? I see dots. Black dots. They're getting bigger. I don't think I can move anymore. Ah fuck. I was so close. So so close.

I think I'll just go to sleep for now...
