Casper's POV

15 minutes left.

It was currently 11.45pm. 15 minutes away from October 31st.

The last few days have been hectic. Everyone got called into the medical building to get their injections. The dining hall had been raided since we all wanted a supply of food. Everyone has been preparing like crazy. Surprisingly though, it's been quiet and no one has really spoken about the Hunt. It's like it was taboo.

All residence halls were currently in lockdown. All the doors and windows were locked and we were all instructed to stay in our rooms. I was wearing black jeans and a black hoodie and I had a small bag with two sandwiches and a water bottle. As soon as it hit midnight, I was going to climb out the window and slide down the water pipe. It was Leo's idea as he thought it would be safer for me to get outside as soon as I could.

Enzo and I were sat on our beds and I could tell that he was nervous since he wouldn't make eye contact with me. He had really been struggling for the past few days after Roman broke up with him. He had gotten quiet and was barely eating. I was worried for him but I had myself to take care of.

10 minutes left.

My leg was shaking and I had a sick feeling in my stomach. The others had tried to explain everything that would happen but I still didn't know what to expect. The aim was to just stay alive. I wanted everyone in the Sun Pack to stay alive, actually. Now that we were going to be thrown into a bloodbath, I realised that I'd gotten quite attached to my new friends and I didn't want to see them get hurt. They had all been so nice to me despite the fact that I was an outsider.

I looked over to Enzo and he was fidgeting with his fingers. I hadn't met Roman yet but I just knew he was a complete asshole. I didn't say this out loud but it was probably better that they broke up because Enzo doesn't deserve to be taken advantage of. He's too innocent for his own good but he deserves someone who actually appreciates him.

5 minutes left.

"Enzo."

He looked up. "Yeah?"

"Is Ezra going to come after you?"

He looked back down and looked visibly pale. "I-I hope not. And I hope Damon doesn't come after you either."

The mention of his name made me breathe harder. Who knows what kind of monster he'll turn into?  I certainly wasn't going to stick around to find out.

"I can't outrun him if he chases me down, can I?" I laughed hysterically. I felt like I was losing my mind. There was NOTHING I could do if he decided to hunt me down. I hated this feeling of helplessness. "How did everything get so screwed?" I paused and thought for a second. "You know what, if he comes anywhere near me, I'll kill myself."

"Casper, calm down. He marked you because he probably wants something from you. He won't do anything to properly hurt you."

"I'm not taking any chances, En, and you shouldn't either."

1 minute left.

We spent the last few moments in silence. The anticipation was gut-wrenching.

30 seconds left.

It was so silent that I could actually hear my wristwatch ticking.

20 seconds left.

"Good luck, Casper. I hope I'll see you again," Enzo, whispered.

"Yeah. And you." I looked at him one last time before I made my way to the window.

A deafening siren blared through the hallway speakers. A clicking noise came from the door and the window indicating that they had been unlocked.

"ARGHHHHHH!" Enzo yelled out in pain and I saw that he had already begun shifting.

My hands were shaky as I tried to open the window. The ground seemed a long distance away but I tried to ignore it as I scrambled out and grabbed the water pipe. I placed my feet onto the window ledge and mentally counted down before I started sliding down.

I could hear howling and screaming from all directions and I panicked. I was about 2 metres from the ground before I slipped and let go. I landed on both feet but twisted my right ankle in doing so. I didn't have time to think about the pain though. I could already hear crashing and I rushed to shift into my wolf form.

I had unintentionally shifted in the dining hall that time so I really had to focus to bring out my wolf form.

"ARGHH FUCK!" I could feel my bones snapping and moving around. I sweated profusely and felt the urge to throw up.

I grew impatient and tensed harder to speed up the process and after a few more seconds, I had fully shifted into my wolf.

I ran. I can't remember in which direction but I bolted for the pitch black forest. I could smell other wolves everywhere. I could hear them. I could feel them. So I just kept running despite a throbbing pain in one of my legs.

My wolf's eyes helped me see. The trees were so dense that the dark crimson sky was blocked out. The Blood Moon bled through small gaps in the trees, providing the only source of light.

5 hours later

I woke up with a gasp. I was resting on this tree branch and I accidentally dozed off. Stupid Casper. You have to stay alert. All that running had completely drained me and I felt exhausted. I had reached the tall metal gates surrounding Holloway pretty quickly and now I was resting nearby. I hadn't bumped into anyone yet and I couldn't hear anything apart from distant howling and barking. I'll be safe here.

Wait.

Someone was coming towards me. How did I not notice? I put my bag back on and climbed down the tree. I wasn't in my wolf form anymore but my ankle wasn't as sore so I started running in the opposite direction to whoever was on my tail.

They were fast. I could hear the twigs cracking as they ran.

Hold on. I know that scent.

I could tell only one person was heading my way but my senses were muddled as I ran.

Who...?

They were closing the gap between us at an alarmingly fast rate. Tears slipped from the sides of my eyes as I tried to run even faster.

No way.

The back of my throat hurt as I tried to take in more air. I knew he didn't like me much but I didn't think he despised me to the point he'd come after me. He was getting closer and closer and I could now fully recognise his scent.

Jaxon.
