A hour or two later the train did seem to be slowing down. They had changed in to their robes and waiting for the train to stop. A voice echoed through the train: "We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes' time. Please leave your luggage on the train, it will be taken to the school separately."
The train slowed right down and finally stopped. People pushed their way toward the door and out on to a tiny, dark platform. Pansy and theo looked nervous while others looked excited. Alecs and daphne shivered in the cold night air. Then a lamp came bobbing over the heads of the students, and they heard a voice, "Firs' years! Firs' years over here!" A man named hagrid was calling them. Looking closely alecs could see potter and weasley talking to him. Whatever she thought turning away.
Slipping and stumbling all first years followed Hagrid down what seemed to be a steep, narrow path. Once or twice alecs and draco helped each other to stop landing on their asses. It was so dark on either side of them that it seemed like thick trees were there. Nobody spoke much. The boy who had lost his toad, sniffed once or twice."Yeh'll get yer firs' sight o' Hogwarts in a sec," Hagrid called over his shoulder, "jus' round this bend here." There was a loud "Oooooh!" The narrow path had opened suddenly onto the edge of a great black lake. Perched atop a high mountain on the other side, its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers. Alecs must admit the castle was beautiful, maybe it was her greek hardwired brain speaking, but it lacked the natural charm that her camp has. The demigods agreed with her in single heartbeat, Nothing can supress the beautiful of their home.
"No more'n four to a boat!" Hagrid called, pointing to a fleet of little boats sitting in the water by the shore. Alecs missed the canoes back in camp. She and draco were accompanied into their boat by theo and blaize. Daphne and and pansy in the boat next to them with two other girls. Draco's two bodyguards nowhere to found. "Everyone in?" shouted Hagrid, who had a boat to himself. "Right then - FORWARD!"
And the fleet of little boats moved off all at once, gliding across the lake, which was as smooth as glass. Everyone was silent, staring up at the great castle overhead. It towered over them as they sailed nearer and nearer to the cliff on which it stood.
"Heads down!" yelled Hagrid as the first boats reached the cliff, like they would stay still and get their heads hit. Then again some might. Alecs thought with a scoff. They all bent their heads and the little boats carried them through a curtain of ivy that hid a wide opening in the cliff face. They were carried along a dark tunnel, which was taking them right underneath the castle, until they reached a kind of underground harbor, where they clambered out onto rocks and pebbles, Draco helping her. "Oy, you there! Is this your toad?" said Hagrid, who was checking the boats as people climbed out of them.
"Trevor!"cried a boy -the same boy previously had lost his toad -blissfully, holding out his hands. After that they clambered up a passageway in the rock after Hagrid's lamp, coming out at last onto smooth, damp grass right in the shadow of the castle.
They walked up a flight of stone steps and crowded around the enormous, oak front door. "Everyone here? You there, still got yer toad?"Hagrid raised a gigantic fist and knocked three times on the castle door.
The large door swung open at once. A tall, black-haired witch in emerald-green robes stood there.
"Minnie!" The marauders shouted making gryffindors laugh while slytherins and professor McGonagall rolled their eyes. She had a very stern face and alecs was reminded a close friend of hers' with the same expression.
At that statement alecs glanced at her aunt artemis with a sad smile who returned it, both knowing who she was talking about.
"That's professor McGonagall" Draco whispered to her at the same time hagrid said "The firs' years, Professor McGonagall,"
"Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here." The professor said as she pulled the door wide. The entrance hall was large and spacey. The stone walls were lit with flaming torches, with a high ceilling and a grand marble staircase facing them leading to the upper floors.
They followed Professor McGonagall across the flagged stone floor. Alecs could hear the drone of the rest of the school from a doorway to their right. But Professor McGonagall showed them all into a small, empty chamber off the hall. The first years crowded in, having to stand rather closer than they would usually have done, peering about nervously except for alecs, draco and their friends who all wore perfectly blank faces.
"How did you do that ?" A third year gryffindor asked alecs and her pureblood friends who gave her the exact same look. Earning many groans and laughs.
"Welcome to Hogwarts." Professor McGonagall started. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room. The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rulebreaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.
"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting.I shall return when we are ready for you," said Professor McGonagall. "Please wait quietly." Then she left. Alecs ,Draco or their friend didn't move, knowing that they looked perfect without a doubt. Suddenly Several people screamed.
"What the hell?" Alecs muttered ears still ringing from the screams. She turned around when she heard many gasped and promptly rolled her eyes again. "You are such a mood little reg, do you know that?" Rudolphus lestrange huffed a laugh at the little witches' behavior. "oh I know " alecs replied with a cheeky grin. About twenty ghosts had just streamed through the back wall. They glided across the room talking to one another and hardly glancing at the first years. They seemed to be arguing. What looked like a fat little monk was saying, "Forgive and forget, I say, we ought to give him a second chance" Alecs ignored the ghosts wondering when would professor McGonagall be back. "Move along now" a sharp voice was heard just then. "The Sorting Ceremony's about to start."
Think of the devil and they shall appear.Alecs thought with a silent laugh.
