Friday afternoon, alecs and percy were sitting with Grover at the lake, percy was resting from a near-death experience on the climbing wall. Grover had scampered to the top like a mountain goat, and alecs had climbed it easily but the lava had almost gotten him. His shirt had smoking holes in it. The hairs had been singed off his forearms.
Grover and alecs high fived as percy pouted, making others laugh.
They all sat on the pier, watching the naiads do underwater basket-weaving, well, until percy got up the nerve to ask Grover how his conversation had gone with Mr. D. His face turned a sickly shade of yellow.
"Fine," he said.
"Just great." Alecs furrowed her brows as percy asked,
"So your career's still on track?"
He glanced at percy nervously.
"Chiron t-told you I want a searcher's license?" Ah that's the problem. Alecs thought as she gave grover a reassuring glance.
" What's searcher's license ?" James asked. But before grover could reply annabeth clamped a hand over his mouth saying loudly,
" No spoilers."
"Well... no." Percy didn't had any idea what searcher's license was, but he didn't asked either.
"He just said you had big plans, you know and that you needed credit for completing a keeper's assignment. So did you get it?" Grover looked down at the naiads.
"Mr. D suspended judgment. He said I hadn't failed or succeeded with you yet, so our fates were still tied together. If you got a quest and I went along to protect you, and we both came back alive, then maybe he'd consider the job complete." Alecs barely stopped herself from wincing. But percy looked as if his spirit was lifted.
"Well, that's not so bad, right?" Alecs shook her head. There haven't been a quest in two years and a possibility of a one in near future was slim to none.
People who liked grover got sad expression when they heard the girl.
"Blaa-ha-ha! He might as well have transferred me to stable-cleaning duty. The chances of you getting a quest. and even if you did, why would you want me along?" Oh goat boy!
"Of course I'd want you along!"
"Of course he'd want you along" Both alecs and percy said the same time. Hoping to uplift grover's bad mood. But Grover just stared glumly into the water.
"Basket-weaving ... Must be nice to have a useful skill." Alecs and percy shared a look. Both trying to reassure him that he had lots of talents, but that just made him look more miserable. They talked about canoeing and swordplay for a while, then debated the pros and cons of the different gods.
" You two are really good friends to him." Narcissa told the couple who gave her a huge smile. It was grover who replied,
" The best of best friends someone could ask for."
" Aww.. we love you too grover. " Both alecs and percy said in unison giving grover a big smiles.
Out of blue percy asked him and alecs about the four empty cabins.
"Number eight, the silver one, belongs to my aunt Artemis. "Alecs said.
"She vowed to be a maiden forever. So of course, no kids. The cabin is, you know, honorary. If she didn't have one, she'd be mad." Grover finished.
"Yeah, okay. But the other three, the ones at the end. Are those the Big Three?" Alecs didn't react any way but grover tensed since they were getting close to a touchy subject.
