-Traveler loses to the Shogun AU-
You opened the front door and hobbled inside, suppressing tears of pain. Yae Miko was in the kitchen, cleaning a glass. When she saw you, grimacing in pain, with tears in the corners of your eyes, she dropped it. It landed in the sink, causing a resounding thud, but Miko didn't care.
"It's going to be alright, little fox." She was already at your side, scooping you up into her arms and carrying you into your bedroom. The seemingly delicate youkai you lived with was actually intimidatingly strong. She lay you with extreme care on the bed, rushing out of the room again. A moment later she appeared with a plastic bag of tissues, some medicine, a box of bandages, a clean, damp cloth and some water. She sat on the side of the bed, using a tissue to dab at the trickles of tears escaping your eyes. "It's okay, my darling." She soothed. You looked up at her, vision still blurry with tears. "M- Miko! I'm so s-sorry!" You sobbed, clinging onto her forearm desperately. She tucked a bit of hair out of your face with her free hand and placed a kiss on your forehead. Her tail flickered behind her for a moment before disappearing again. It was a telltale sign that she had been caught off guard by your condition.
"What for, Traveler?" Her voice was calm and low, in stark contrast to your high-pitched crying. "I- I couldn't beat it! I couldn't! I f-failed!" You closed your eyes and cried even harder. "My little fox. You didn't fail. I'm certain you did all you could. What do you think you couldn't beat?" She began kissing all over your face, trying to show her care for you. "The Shogun..!" Your voice broke. "I failed Inazuma... and I failed you." You said miserably. Yae wouldn't take that. She heard the sheer amount of self-loathing in your voice and pressed a kiss to your lips, if only to stop you from saying something else about yourself. She barely pulled back as she broke the kiss and stroked your face gently. "My love, you didn't fail me. You never could, even if you tried your hardest. I value you too much to see anything you do as a failure. What I am worried about," she pried her arm gently out of your grasp, "is if you're badly hurt. I want to take care of you, Traveler." She whispered against your lips before pressing hers to your nose gently.
"What's hurting you?" She asked, grabbing the cloth from behind the tissue box. "Well.. my- my everything, really. Everything hurts.." You responded quietly. "I see. Here, you take some medicine while I clean you up." She said, handing you the pain meds and water. You silently took them and watched Miko work her way up your body, gently wiping your cuts and scrapes with the wet cloth. "I'm going to lift this." She placed a hand on your stomach.
That was her way of asking for your permission, which you granted her with a nod. She folded your shirt up all the way to your armpits, surveying the damage. As she cleaned the dried blood off your chest, she kept whispering things like, "I'm sorry love, you're doing great," or "Good job, little fox." After she had cleaned the wounds, she took a small container of healing gel out of a pocket and began applying it to the larger wounds on your body. You hissed through your teeth at the sting, flattening your ears. Finally, Yae Miko dressed your wounds with bandages, thoroughly checking that they were secured on your body.
When she was satisfied with her work, she set everything on the nightstand and cuddled close to you. "I love you, my little fox." She whispered. You sighed and gave in, snuggling even closer and inhaling her intoxicating scent. "I love you too, Miko." She smiled against the top of your head, running her nails through your scalp. The feeling of her fingers playing with your hair lulled you closer to sleep. You tried and failed to stifle a yawn, and a quiet chuckle passed the pink-haired kitsune's lips. "Sleep, my darling. I will watch over you, and will be here when you wake." She murmured, planting another kiss on your head. With leadening eyelids, you mumbled a sleepy "thank you," and drifted off, hardly aware of the tinges of pain across your body.

Hope you liked the first chapter! If you're thinking 'this isn't the emotional pain I was promised!' don't worry- there is more on its way. Love you all!
