You lay in the bathtub, barely conscious.

Everything was spinning and you head hurt like crazy... oh, if only Albedo were here right now. You closed your eyes and hazily wondered what would happen next. This longing for your partner wasn't unexpected- in fact, you'd known it would happen at some point or another.

You'd considered him before all this, eventually deciding that losing you was a pain that Albedo could bear. Probably. But knowing what you knew, seeing what you'd seen; there was no way you could carry on. Trying to stop the shaking of your whole body, you gripped the edges of the tub. It had to be this way. It had to. You kept repeating that to yourself as the lights of the bathroom began dimming, and allowed yourself to finally slip into a comfortable, quiet sleep.

...

Albedo's heart dropped into his stomach as he opened the bathroom door. You were out cold in the bathtub, chest rising and falling unsteadily, your entire body trembling. It sank further when he noticed a small vial on the floor outside the tub. It was almost empty, but what remained was a sickening orange-red.

No.

No no no no no.

This can't be happening.

For a moment he was frozen to the tile, heart breaking and breathing shaky, but Albedo escaped the murky depths of despair and leapt into action. "Love!? Love, please! Please open your eyes!" Kneeling beside the tub, he choked out the words in an attempt to rouse you. You did not wake. Maybe you'd simply fallen asleep in the bath. The fleeting thought flickered desperately in his mind. But you had clothes on, and the bathtub was dry. He lifted you out of the bath without a second thought and hurried to set you tenderly on the bed. "Condition is incredibly unstable. They're probably hanging between life and death right now." Albedo realized, his own breathing coming in uneven gasps.

The alchemist placed an ear to your chest, hearing with relief that you still had a heartbeat. But, he realized with dread, that it was quiet. Too quiet. Out of options, Albedo fumbled with one of the pockets inside his jacket, undoing the button and withdrawing a vial full of blue liquid. He carefully tipped your chin back and parted your lips, uncorking the vial with his teeth before letting half the dose pour down your throat.

"Come on, come on, come on. Please, love." He whispered. This desperation was very unlike Albedo. In any other circumstance, he'd be calm and collected, analytical and methodical. But your life was hanging in the balance of life and death now. You could leave him at any moment, and the thought was driving him crazy with fear. He felt tears escaping his eyes, but couldn't be bothered to dry them. "Please." He murmured again, lower lip trembling ever so slightly.

As if you could hear the way his words crumbled into cries, your throat moved the tiniest bit as your body accepted the medicine. Seeing this, Albedo broke down into sobs.

You could survive this.

Now there wasn't much he could do besides wait for the medicine to take effect. Still, he was desperate for some way to help, and pressed his ear to your chest again. Your heartbeat, although still soft, was more regular and strong. The alchemist continued to monitor you through his tears for a time, periodically giving you more small doses of the medicine. Only around two hours later did he notice your eyelids begin to twitch and flutter.

...

You opened your eyes to a familiar sight- a ceiling with runes and alchemical symbols neatly painted like a mural on it. Albedo enjoyed staring up at it at night so he could go over formulas as he fell asleep.

Wait.. if the ceiling looks like this... am I in Albedo's bed?

You tried to speak, but your lips wouldn't move, and your throat was stinging with some sort of coldness. Did he really bring you back? You glanced to your side to see a pair of bright teal eyes, glossy with tears, meeting yours. They held sheer worry and relief. Your lover choked out a sob and wrapped his arms around you, holding you close. "Traveler. Traveler. Please. Please, please don't ever scare me like that again!" He begged. "If I let anything happening to you... oh, love, I don't know what I'd do if I lost you!" The alchemist held you closer, tighter, like you could fade into mist at any moment. Gathering the strength to move, you opened your mouth.

"...'bedo..." You whispered hoarsely. "Oh! Yes, yes, you need water. Here, try this." He took another vial out of his jacket and tipped it to your lips. You drank gratefully, the water soothing your cracked and sore throat. Albedo began speaking again as you attempted to collect yourself. "My love, I'm so sorry. If this was my doing at all, I... if you so desired it, I'd never approach you again. I'm sorry if I was too insistent in experimenting on you. O- Or if I wasn't a good enough partner. I'm sorry I couldn't help you. Just- what did I do? I promise I won't do it again, whatever it is. I know it's selfish of me, just, please.." his voice broke, "don't do that to yourself again. I wouldn't be able to bear it." You grimaced with effort as you moved to hold his cheek.

"Albedo. You are perfect." Your throat was gravelly and slightly painful. "I'm the one that who is not strong enough." Using your thumb, you wiped a fresh tear from his eye. "I was too weak to bear all the knowledge I received. I couldn't handle the pain of all I've been through. I thought..." you sighed wearily and Albedo let another sob escape him. "I believed that death was the only way for me to be free. You, my love, are so much more than I could ever ask for. You're wonderful in so many ways. You didn't do anything that pushed me to do what I did; it was my choice alone." You promised, pulling him down towards you by the face.

"I'm sorry. It was selfish. I didn't really think about how you would feel, I-"

"No. No, stop. You weren't being selfish- please never, ever say that again. You were suffering on such a great scale. Your pain was so unbearable, you felt you had to die to be free of it. You don't deserve any of this unbearable burden that has been placed on you." Albedo rested his forehead to yours gently. All was quiet for a moment, just the two of you keeping each other company.

You opened your eyes and gently stroked your thumb over his face. "I'm sorry for scaring you, darling. I.. I'll try to talk to you next time, okay..?" You found it in you to smile a little, attempting to reassure your shaken partner. He smiled softly back, inching closer and gently pecking your lips. "Can you stay with me here? I... don't want to be alone." You confessed quietly. The alchemist lay down facing you. "Gladly." He responded. You slowly and carefully rolled onto your side to face him.

Your breathing soon slowed and deepened, indicative of your physical and emotional exhaustion.

"I love you." Albedo whispered, admiring your sleeping face. "I love you so much."

If you are struggling with thoughts or tendencies such as these, I encourage you to reach out to someone you trust. I know it's rich coming from the (definitely unstable) person writing this book, but I truly wish that everyone reading this can get some sort of relief or comfort from my works.

Please remember that you are loved and that your existence does matter. Someone would miss you.

Trust me- someone would.
