A mitachurl swung at you, its giant axe tearing the skin on your shoulder. You grunted in pain, lunging forwards and slashing its stomach in return. It howled in anger and pain combined, and from behind you there was a screech of effort. Turning with a sense of dread looming in your stomach, you saw a hydro samachurl waving its staff around.
You furrowed your eyebrows in frustration as you turned back to the mitachurl, only to see its wounds closing up. "This is getting really fucking annoying, you know." You panted, lunging for the healer. The mitachurl blocked you with its axe and swung again, this time cutting a long gash in your stomach.
With a pained huff, you pushed past it and stabbed through the samachurl, then turned on the bigger beast.
It let out something like a deep, gravelly scream as you lodged your sword in its chest, watching as it disintegrated. When you had collected what you needed from the camp, you noticed yourself swaying on your feet. The adrenaline of the fight was wearing off, and the pain was really beginning to kick in. You shook your head. Shake it off, man. You insisted to yourself, panting as you tucked your loot into your bag.
I can be in pain when I'm home, alone in my room.
Beginning the walk back to the Adventurer's Guild, you did your best to ignore the raking claws of pain across your body.
I'll be fine.
...
You staggered into the house you shared with Lumine and Paimon, clutching your shoulder. It screamed with pain whenever you so much as moved, and even just opening the door sent sharp blades of discomfort down your arm.
"Hi, honey!" The familiar voice of the famous Traveler of Teyvat reached you. You opened your mouth to respond, but no noise escaped. Instead, a pained grunt echoed slightly through the hallway. Lumine heard this, and raced from your bedroom to the source of the noise. "Love..?"
She froze when she saw you. "Are.. you okay??" You nodded, trying to reassure your partner, but before you could respond verbally, you stumbled. Your foot caught on something, and you fell to the floor. But you didn't even feel the thud of the floor.
You were out cold before you hit the hardwood.
...
Something brushed your shoulder.
Blinking rapidly, you shot up. A blaze of pain scorched your arm and your stomach. "Woah, love, it's alright! You're okay, everything is okay. Don't move too much, my stitchwork isn't exactly perfect. You're gonna be alright." Lumine, your lovely Lumine, said softly. "Wha.. what's happening..?" You mumbled dazedly, pressing a hand to your forehead. She took it and eased you backwards into a lying down position.
"You got home and almost immediately passed out; Paimon and I carried you in here, and I patched you up. How are you feeling now?" She asked, holding your hand tightly in hers.
You let out a breath that made your chest ache. "I mean, my injures hurt, but not in the wound way. Did you put disinfectant on them?" You tried to get a better look at yourself, pressing your chin to your chest to look at your stomach. "Yeah. Feel alright?" Lumine responded. "It stings, but otherwise it's okay." You said. Observing your body, you saw bandages wrapped around the majority of your midsection. Some of the skin that wasn't covered was bruised an ugly purple-red. "You mentioned when I woke that you stitched me up. Are those ones okay?" You asked.
She nodded. "I'm not the best at it, but I can assure you that you won't fall apart, at the very least!" She smiled sweetly. You grinned, moving your uninjured arm to hold her cheek.
She leaned into your touch, giggling softly. "I'm glad you're okay. But, uh.."
Tilting your head, you gave her a questioning look. Was something wrong? Had something happened? Had Paimon finally been cooked? She shook her head briskly. "No, nothing's wrong, love. I'm just.. worried about you." She confessed. You were perplexed. "But why?"
Lumine sighed softly. It wasn't a sound of exasperation, but one of concern. "I.. I'm worried that you're not taking care of yourself." She met your eyes, and you saw worry and maybe even fear swimming in their amber depths. "I'm worried that you don't value your own safety, and that you won't properly care for yourself, should you get hurt." She took your hands from where they lay atop your stomach and intertwined your fingers with hers.
You realized what she meant, and deciding that evasion would be the best tactic, you shook your head. "I'm still not following, doll." You feigned confusion. You really didn't want to admit what you knew she was getting at.
"Darling, you and I both know that you wouldn't usually get this badly injured doing a simple commission. So what's happening that's making you so.. distracted..?" You sighed. Your partner was always so perceptive. "It's nothing, love. I just.. was having a bit of a cloudy-headed moment, is all." You attempted to brush it off, but she only held tighter on your hands. "Please tell me the truth- please.." You realized your partner was not going to let you get around this. Clearing your throat, you nodded slowly. "Okay. Just.. let me explain first."
Attempting to sit up, you pushed yourself up further against the headboard of your bed. "I.. haven't been sleeping well. It's gotten to the point where sometimes I go without real sleep for a few days. It makes me dizzy and unfocused, and sometimes I can't even think." You admitted.
One of Lumine's hands left yours, and you watched as it shot up to cover her mouth. "Oh, babe, no. No, no, no, why didn't you tell me?" She shook her head; now you could see a few tears gathering in her eyes. "I didn't want to worry you. I know you're busy with your search for your brother, and me being all sickly won't do anything to help you. I'm supposed to be the strong one; your boyfriend, the one who supports you without fail. How can I do that if I can barely complete a commission?" Your voice broke slightly. "I'm weak, Lumine."
She suddenly pressed a hand over your mouth. "No, stop. Stop." She said firmly, swallowing her tears. "Stop it. You're not weak, you're not. Don't you understand? You're the strongest, most reliable person I know. You're always there for me when I need you, and you never fail to rise to the challenge." She pressed on.
"You never fail to make me smile and you never talk about what's bothering you for fear of worrying me. Every little thing you do, like how you always try to get in front of me in combat to protect me, I love. You put yourself below everyone you care about, and that's the strongest thing I could ever see. So don't you fucking dare call yourself weak. You hear me?" She removed her hand from your face, and you sniffed once.
"You.. you mean it?" You whispered hoarsely. She hummed in affirmation as she nodded. Leaning down, she pressed a kiss to your forehead. "I love you. So much." She murmured. "I love you, too. Thank you, darling." You smiled. "Do you wanna rest with me for a little while? I wouldn't mind some company."
Lumine chucked. "Sure." She flopped down onto her side beside you. Exhaling in contentment, she tucked her chin onto your shoulder. You wrapped an arm around the infamous Traveler's waist, turning your head and kissing her on the cheek. "Goodnight, honey. I love you." You hummed quietly.
"I love you, too." Lumine placed a soft kiss on your jaw and settled in, her breathing slowing and evening.
She's so perfect.
