Everyone made their way around the table and sat down. Surprisingly, after Arthur and Paige's fight, they still sat beside each other. The table consisted of Arthur, Paige, Apollo, Polly, Milly, Lizzie, Ada, and Mr Greene. "Thank you Edna... and close the door" Arthur nodded as everyone sat down. Apollo clears his throat, drawing Paige's attention as he seen she wasn't looking at up, finding her wedding rings more interesting that the meeting itself. "Now... let's begin. Yesterday, as you know, there was a fucking terrible... there was a terrible disaster" Arthur states, "It wasn't just for us, it was for the whole world... happened in New York. That's where it happened. And slowly, it spread to London..." "And to Hong Kong, yeah?" Apollo asked and Paige nodded her head.
"The whole thing... went up" Arthur sighed, Paige turning her head to him finally. "Well, it kind of went fucking down..." "The whole things gone to hell and everyone in this room can say the same" Apollo said. "We wasn't the only ones that were hurt by this... whole world is hurt... lot of people... in the paper, it's all over the news... everyone's talking about it" Arthur said. "Arthur, shouldn't we just wait for Tommy?" Polly asked. "Yeah, I second that" Paige said. "When the fuck were you buddies with Tommy?" Apollo asked.
"I never said I was, I just think that we should wait for someone who knows what he's talking about" Paige said, not looking at Arthur but then sighs, "But Arthur's now Chairman of the board... continue" "Mr Chairman... perhaps while we wait for Thomas, might I lighten the gloom?" Mr Greene suggested, "May I express, as a relatively new member of this company, what a pleasure it is to be in a room with so many females. All females who are both sharp witted and decorative." "Yeah well, we're a very modern company, Mr Greene" Arthur stated. "Indeed" Mr Greene agreed.
"Why, have you got a problem with that Mr Greene that we don't have balls?" Paige asked, tilting her head. "Paige, please" Arthur sighed, wanting her to shut up. "Although there are still some among us who cling to their old fashioned values" Polly said and Milly agreed. Just then, the door flings open with Tommy walking through it. "How far have we got?" Tommy asked. "We've established that ladies are decorative" Milly said. "And that we do not have balls" Paige said.
"We've only just sat down, Tom" Arthur said. "Actually, Arthur has some documents he'd like to hand out" Paige said. "Yeah? What documents?" Tommy asked. "I was just explaining to everyone, Tom, that uh... well, we're fucked" Arthur said, "Ain't that right?" "Yes and no" Tommy said, lighting himself a cigarette, "It is true that a large proportion of the company's funds were invested in American stocks and shares." "Invested or hidden?" Paige asked.
"All investments are approved by the board, Paige" Tommy said. "Only the ones that went through the books, Tommy" Paige said. "Paige, after this meeting there will be another meeting, just for family with the exception of Apollo" Tommy said. "Did we vote on this?" Paige scoffed. "Arthur-" Tommy said but Paige continues to quote him, "Arthur can't you control your wife?" We are a very modern company, Mr Greene" She nods. "To be precise, everything we channelled through the New York Stock Exchange is now offering a return of ten cents to the dollar..." Tommy said as Polly scoffs but he continues, "And the Nolan Bank of America, where we invested our fluidity is offering five cents to the dollar on all deposits. Yeah." Polly sighs with her head in her hands.
