CHAPTER 13
"So how is this going to work?" I asked as Liam and I stood out on the beach. "What do you mean?" He asked. "Well your parents aren't down, so are you going to stay with us, or are you going to head over to your house?" "Well it's up to you really," he said. "No! Please don't do that to me! You know how indecisive I am!" Liam chuckled, "I may go down to my house for a night or two to let you settle in and then we'll see." It was hard to hide my disappointment. But Liam simply did not notice. "So you have a full house this summer," Liam said, looking back at the beach house. "Yup! Mom, Dad, Josh and I all together again! And with the exception of you." "And Morgan," Liam said. "Wait what?!" I exclaimed, looking up at him, "Morgan is here?!" Liam smiled and pointed up to the house. I squinted against the sunlight and just barely spotted her in the kitchen. "Oh, my god!" I exclaimed and ran for the house. I bolted up the stairs and through the glass door. "MORGAN!" I shouted and she spun around smiling when she saw me. "Brooklyn!" She said as I nearly tackled her in a hug. "It's been so long!" She said. "Even longer for me," I teased and she smiled half heartedly. "Life been a little rough for ya?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders as Liam approached my side, "Yeah, but I'm making it." Morgan smiled, "And I see you've managed to keep hold on this handsome guy," she teased. I felt my cheeks become warm. "Always a pleasure, Morgan," Liam said. She smiled, "It's good to see you too." Josh came up to Morgan's side and if anyone would have just looked at the four of us, they would have laughed. The younger couple was literally towering over the older couple, it was quite a sight to see. "And I see you've managed to keep hold of my brother," I said to her. "He's definitely a hassle," she teased. "Tell me about it! This one is the same way," I teased, pointing to Liam. "Hey!" Both Josh and Liam said. This made Morgan and I laughed, "It's great to see you again," she said, "It has definitely been far too long." "Agreed," I said with a smile. "Hey love birds!" I heard my mother call. All four of us turned to her and she smiled as we all realized we didn't know who she was calling, "Stop your chatting and come help with lunch." We all laughed and broke up into pairs. Morgan and I stayed in the kitchen and made a salad, while Josh and Liam set the table outside. My father stood by the barbecue, flipping burgers and my mother stood by sipping her glass of wine. Everything actually seemed perfect.
When Morgan and I walked outside with the salad, we saw there were four more places set at the table. Our family was lucky to have many picnic tables to put side by side. "Who's joining us?" I asked as I walked over to where Liam was leaning against the railing. "Donna and Mark are bringing the twins over," my mother said, "They've missed you a lot. Donna says they haven't stopped talking about the time you and Liam babysat them." "Really?" Liam cut in, "That was almost a year ago!" "Well, five year olds remember a lot!" My mother said. It took a moment for me to wrap my head around the fact that Donna's twins, Finn and Mia, weren't three years old anymore. I had lost two years so they had gained two years. "Well, I can't wait to see them," I said, coming back to reality. Liam smiled at me and put an arm around my waist. "Just don't tell them about your memory loss," my mother said, "They won't understand and it's probably best if we don't confuse them." "Okay," I said, not really feeling discourage and outcasted like normal. I didn't really need to feel like that at all, I had Liam and my family, and I know they're here to help and support me through all of this.
"Hello-o-o-o!" I heard the all too familiar southern accent that belonged to Donna echo across the yard. "Back here!" My mother called and I saw Donna coming around the house. "Hi!" Donna said as she saw us all. "Oh! Finn! Mia! Guess who's here?!" She called over her shoulder and I heard the sound of two pairs of tiny footsteps pounding up the stairs. "Brooklyn!" Mia screamed as she saw me. "Liam!" Finn shouted as he followed his sister towards Liam and I. Mia jumped into my arms as Finn gave Liam a high five. "Hi, sweetie!" I said, "I've missed you!" It was hard not to show my shock at how much they've grown. "I've missed you too!" She said in her adorable little voice. "And Liam!" She said, stretching her arms towards him. He took her out of my arms as she squeezed him tightly. I wasn't paying attention to Finn until he wrapped his arms around my middle and held me tight. "Oh!" I said, looking down at him. I pulled him off of me and crouched down to his level, "Hey buddy," I said, as he hugged me for real. I hugged him back, "I've missed you." "Me too!" He exclaimed. "When are you and Liam going to babysit again?" I heard Mia say. "Well when mommy and daddy decide to go out again, we're here if they need us," I said, staying close to the ground as Finn sat on my knee. "Mommy!" Finn shouted, "Go home!" This made everyone laugh and Finn just sat there triumphantly not knowing why what he said was so funny. "Maybe we'll have Brooklyn and Liam over tomorrow night and daddy and I will come over here and have dinner with Brooklyn's mommy and daddy," Donna said. I saw Mia's face light up as Finn began bouncing up and down on my knee. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!" He said with each bounce. "Is that okay with you?" Donna asked my mom. She smiled and shrugged her shoulders, "You know you're always welcome!" "We're going to go walking on the beach again! And go to Liam's house and watch a movie!" Mia was going on and on. "I want to race Liam again! I'm faster now!" Finn said. I looked up at Liam and smiled. Finn and Mia probably had to be the cutest kids I had ever seen and I know that with the smile Liam gave me, he had the same thought.
