A simple story [Wrightworth/ Narumitsu]

It's over

(This chapter focuses on the aftermath of the trial so I won't be writing about the scenes in the trial.)

Phoenix had made it through. 

He had fought for hours in that courtroom, every single statement being analysed like his life depended on it. It was Maya he was fighting for, not just her but Pearl, Gumshoe and even Franziska. She had gotten injured because of him.

None of that mattered anymore though, it was all over now. 

Phoenix stood in the defendant lobby his ears still ringing from the screaming and begging of his client. He couldn't care less, a man like that didn't deserve to walk the streets in Phoenix's eyes. 

Everyone had began to slowly gather around him. Franziska was dragging Gumshoe by his ear whilst holding her injured arm closely to her chest, she had also stolen Gumshoe's jacket and was wearing it for herself. Gumshoe was grabbing at his head which was bandaged up after his 'small' car crash just to bring evidence to the courtroom. During the trial he had swung the doors open with a tiny pouch in his hand, but that little pouch had the vital evidence which allowed Phoenix to win. 

Whilst Franziska and Gumshoe were busy dragging each other along, one gripping their chest and the other limping and hopping, Edgeworth briskly walked past them and stood in front of Phoenix. For the first time in a while, Phoenix could see Edgeworth relieved and happy. For the past few days their interactions had mostly been angry and stressful.

"Well done on today's trial Wright. I know this was hard but you did really well."

"Thanks Edgeworth, that means a lot. Especially coming from you."

Phoenix was about to walk over to Franziska when Edgeworth quickly held out his arm to stop him.

"I have some news about Maya-"

"Really? Is she ok? Nothing happened right!"

"Wright calm down, I just wanted to say that she's safe and sound. In fact she's over by the door next to those two officers. I'd say she seems quite happy for someone who's been locked in a basement for three days."

"Thank you Edgeworth! I-I don't-"

Edgeworth chuckled a little and smiled at Phoenix.

"Just go Wright, you don't need to thank me I only did my job."

Phoenix thanked Edgeworth a few more times before running off to see Maya. Pearl had already reached her before him and the first thing that Phoenix saw was Pearl on Maya's back while they ran around the lobby. The officers tasked with keeping Maya safe were busy chasing her around so that she didn't hurt herself. Phoenix was so happy to see her that he felt like he could have cried on the spot.

"Maya! Maya stop running around!" Phoenix went in for a hug and managed to pick up both Pearl and Maya in the same swoop, both of which were giggling and screaming the entire time.

"Nick! Don't worry I'm safe now. That stinky basement couldn't hold me back!'

"Maya the police found you..."

"That's what they want you to think, I actually broke down the door and ran all the way here. They had to send out two officers to catch me!"

"Right..."

Pearl and Maya both started repeating the same sentence in unison.

"Don't you mean-"

"Hey! Enough! Also when did you have time to teach Pearl that trick too?"

"They don't call me Mystic Maya for nothing."

Before Phoenix could continue questioning Maya, she waved goodbye to go talk to Franziska, who was still dragging Gumshoe around whilst  wearing his jacket, with Pearl trailing behind her.

Phoenix didn't know what to do now so he stood awkwardly in the middle of the lobby with crowds of people passing by. It wasn't until Edgeworth decided to walk up to him that Phoenix actually had someone to talk to.

"I see Maya has left you quite quickly already."

"Yeah, she wanted to go talk to Franziska. They seem to be getting really close."

"Hmm yes I'm surprised, Franziska doesn't usually create such quick relations to people. She is quite reserved but around Maya it seems as though she is opening up."

"Well hopefully she stops whipping people if she's going to start being nicer now. I've been victim too many times!"

Both of them continued to talk for a while, this was until Phoenix's stomach began to grumble. Edgeworth asked him if he wanted to go eat but Phoenix persisted that he would just go by some food later. Maya heard the mention of food being paid for all the way from the other side of the lobby and came running up to Phoenix.

"Absolutely not Nick! We are going to eat! I have not been stuck as a hostage for the past few days to have to eat your sloppy cooking when we get back. Mr Edgeworth please forgive Nick's stupidity. We would love to go out to eat with you, as long as your paying!"

Maya gave a very aggressive wink which caused Phoenix to sigh. He had never felt so embarrassed to go out to eat. Edgeworth took a second to answer but greeted Phoenix with a huge smile on his face.

"I'd be delighted to take you all out to eat. I believe we all deserve this, it's been a difficult few days has it not? Where would you like to go Ms Fey?"

Maya grinned like a shark and clapped her hands together. 

"Burgers! There's this really fancy burger place I want to try but Nick has always been to stingy to take me."

"Then we'll go there."

Maya gathered everyone around, Gumshoe agreed immediately and to both Phoenix and Edgeworth's surprise Franziska agreed too.

Maya dragged everyone to the burger place nearby and they all went in. Phoenix was exhausted but he tried his best to keep a cheerful look. Edgeworth patted him on the back and they all sat down.
