Phoenix stepped out of the courtroom a final time. Maya had arrived safely during the trial, the interesting thing that Phoenix had observed was Franziska's relief when Maya ran into the courtroom, he had never seen her show such attention to anyone, not even Edgeworth.

Once Phoenix left the courtroom and made his way onto the street he felt the fresh air blast into his face. He had spent hours in that courtroom to the point where Phoenix had forgotten what the sunlight felt like, it felt refreshing.

A screaming voice approached from behind him, before Phoenix could even turn around, a large weight jumped onto his back. He toppled over, his back giving way. As Phoenix spit out the dirt collecting in his mouth, the voice called out.

"Nick! I've missed you so much!"

"Maya!"

Just as Phoenix was about to stand up again another person jumped onto his back, Phoenix lay defeated on the ground.

"Maya!! Mr Nick!!!!"

Pearl and Maya finally got off Phoenix, allowing him to breathe. After he got up, Phoenix saw Franziska and Miles make their way out of the courtroom. He studied Maya and Franziska's blushing glances whilst hugging Maya and Pearl in a strong embrace.

Once Maya had let go she ran up to Franziska with Pearl trailing behind her, Phoenix remained by himself until Miles walked up to him, they stood awkwardly in silence. Out of the corner of his eye Phoenix saw Maya and Franziska holding hands, they were walking off towards the park. Phoenix was so concentrated on them that he didn't even see Miles staring at him.

"Are you alright?"

"Huh?" Phoenix snapped out of the trance he was in, he couldn't help but blush the moment he saw Miles staring at him. A few seconds of awkward silence passed before the both of them began to blush intensely.

"So... Miles."

"Phoenix..."

They both continued to stand in silence, trying to come up with a conversation topic, Phoenix would have hoped that maybe Maya could come save him however she was already trailing off with Franziska. Phoenix couldn't help but feel the embarrassment rising in him. Being this close to Miles, practically being able to sense his every breath, it was... Unfamiliar. Phoenix kept thinking, it's not so bad being this close. It feels...nice. He began to lose his train of thought when he saw Miles's confused eyes staring back at him, a soft grey. They shone under the sunlight. He looked so elegant. Phoenix was so focused on Miles's eyes he didn't even see how pink Miles was. His hand was tightly clenching his arm. Once Miles glanced down Phoenix finally realised how weird it was that he had been staring at Miles for at least a full minute.

"I-I'm sorry Miles."

Phoenix reached out his hand to touch Miles's arm who quickly backed away, they both turned  bright red. Miles finally shook it off and they began to actually have a proper conversation.

"You did great in court today" Miles had his usual soft smile, his eyebrows bent as though they were worried but his eyes and smile said otherwise.

"Thanks Miles. I couldn't have done it without you."

Miles blushed again, Phoenix could feel his own cheeks getting redder as he finished his sentence.

"So... I guess that's it isn't it?"

Miles's face began to change into a worried expression, Phoenix couldn't quite tell but it seemed he was scared. Scared about something that would happen to do with their relationship.

"With us?" No sooner had Phoenix began to think about  what Miles was worried about, Miles answered his question.

"Well, do you want it to be it?"

"I don't understand..." Miles's expression grew more worried, his eyes glistening.

"Miles, I care for you so much, I just. I don't know what to call us, I don't know what to think of us."

"What do you think of us?"

Phoenix thought for a second, what did he think of Miles? He seemed to close to be just a friend but he didn't feel like they were 'that' just yet.

"I- I'm mixed. On one hand I see you as my closest friend, someone I can confide in whenever. But it's just, you also don't feel that way."

"Oh..."

"No! No! Not in a bad way, I mean, you feel more than that at the same time, I just don't know how to feel."

"You know what Phoenix, I feel the exact same way."

"Really?" Phoenix felt shocked but also a weight was lifted of his chest. So he wasn't alone when it came to how he felt. Had Miles always felt this way? Was it always miscommunication?

Phoenix hugged Miles, he squeezed him so tightly that to a bystander it looked like Miles was trapped between Phoenix's arms, his own arms dangling to the side.

"Let's start from there."

Phoenix and Miles walked towards the park, following Maya and Franziska's path, they soon saw the two with Pearl under a tree.

"Hey Maya."

Maya looked up at Phoenix and blushed, next to her Franziska had also began to turn a bright red. Maya had a little flower tucked behind her hair, next to them Pearl was making a daisy chain. Franziska was already wearing a daisy chain on her head, presumably the one made by Pearl.

Out of the corner of his eye, Phoenix could see Miles smirking, like he was in on something with Franziska who was glaring at him. A fury in her eyes mixed with embarrassment.

Pearl soon began to talk.

"I was with Maya and Franziska, we were talking about so much stuff! Like Maya said-"

"Pearl shush!"

Maya leapt towards Pearl, putting her hand over Pearl's mouth just to stop her from talking.

Phoenix saw this as the perfect opportunity to begin to tease Maya. He began to ask Pearl a number of question, each and every one of them being cut off by both Maya and Franziska. By the end, both of them were out of breath and had their arms crossed. Franziska then threatened to take out her whip which immediately made Phoenix shut up.

The day ended with Phoenix and Miles going their separate ways however, their conversation after the court session made Phoenix realise something.

Now was the perfect.

Over the next few days, Phoenix was going to plan the perfect question.

Miles POV:

Miles walked away with Franziska, both of them were heading back to his apartment. On his way back Miles kept on thinking, his mind racing with questions and excitement. Did Phoenix really mean what he said? Was he just misinterpreting everything, was it all a big mistake?

No Miles thought to himself. After such a close interaction it had to be true. Miles decided, his feelings that had been building up over these few days were to be confronted.

Over the next few days Miles was going to plan the perfect confession.
