Miles POV

After leaving Phoenix back in the hospital Miles headed down to the crime scene. It felt wrong to leave Phoenix on his own, there wasn't anyone else that could visit him, that isolation must have felt horrible. However, Miles felt that it was his duty to fulfil Phoenix's wish, he needed help and it would be an opportunity for Miles to slowly redeem himself.

Walking through the crime scene felt different, he wasn't a prosecutor anymore, he was walking through the eyes of an attorney. Miles felt a sense of pride and pressure, he never would wear his own badge but wearing Phoenix's badge just felt special. It reminded him that there was someone he was helping. Miles always saw the prosecutor's badge extravagant much like himself, but there was a sort of simple beauty in the defence attorney badge... Just the two sides of the scale.

As he looked around Miles could see he had caught the eye of a few of the officers, it must have been unusual to see their loyal prosecutor on the 'enemy's' side. Gumshoe was the first to actually come up to him, though he seemed oblivious of the badge.

"Mr Edgeworth!"

Gumshoe began spilling everything he knew about the case, he was just doing his normal job, if only Miles were a prosecutor at the moment. Miles felt wrong listening to Gumshoe tell everything to him, he still hadn't realised the badge, did Gumshoe do this every time with Phoenix as well?

Miles wanted to interrupt but held himself back, even if it wasn't information he was meant to have, anything was better than none at all. Finally once Gumshoe stopped talking Miles decided to speak up.

"Is this what you do every time you meet a defence attorney?"

Gumshoe paused and sort of froze in place. Slowly Miles lifted his hand towards the badge pinned to his lapel, Gumshoe's eyes followed in fear.

"Mr Edgeworth sir! I'm so sorry I didn't realise! This must be for my training right?"

Miles let out a light chuckle before sadly having to break the news to the poor detective in front of him. Whilst explaining all the colour drained from Gumshoe's face and his eyes darted from the badge back to Miles's face.

"I hope this isn't how Phoenix keeps winning all his trials, because he's been getting information from you."

Miles couldn't help but laugh internally, poor Gumshoe was still trying to explain himself. Miles tutted and began to walk away leaving Gumshoe standing in shock. He felt bad but Miles just had to take advantage of the opportunity in front of him. After satisfying his humour Miles continued to walk around.

He looked around the crime scene, trying to piece together what happened. Miles needed to build a case that both he could defend and Phoenix could carry on, it was way harder than it looked.

Even so, Miles appreciated this new challenge, maybe it would make him an even better prosecutor, enhancing his abilities and making him greater.

It also reminded him of his father.

Miles wanted to be a defense attorney, just like his father. That was how Phoenix had finally gotten him to take the badge, reminding him of his crushed dream. Miles still dreamed sometimes, but it was too late now, Miles was too far into his career. He couldn't just leave all of that behind, not again.

Miles was productive for most of the day, he gathered some information that proved useful enough and began gathering his case. Talking to Larry was a hassle, he kept getting sidetracked which forced Miles to keep him on track. However, Larry did prove useful sometimes, most of his information had been gibberish childhood stories but there were a few points that Miles deemed useful.

It was now dark, most of the detectives had gone home and only a few officers remained to keep watch of the crime scene. Miles had built up a case but he wanted to check over with Phoenix first.

Was that really the reason though?

Somewhere deep down Miles knew that wasn't the reason. Sure it seemed logical but Miles wasn't thinking logically. No, he just wanted to see Phoenix. Just, talk to him.

Maybe, Miles thought, he doesn't need to have an excuse to see Phoenix. They had decided to make up and were friends so what was the point in having to find a reason to go see Phoenix? Miles could just go.

With this confidence within him, Miles rushed over to the hospital. It was past visiting hours but Miles played the prosecutor card to get in. It was cliche but if it worked then Miles didn't see problem.

He walked up to Phoenix's room, surprisingly, he was still awake and looking at his laptop, Miles could vaguely see on the screen a court room with what looked Phoenix's mentor Mia. Before Miles could ask anything Phoenix spotted him and shut his laptop.

"Miles? Isn't it a bit late? I'm pretty sure hospital visiting hours are over."

"Yes but I showed my prosecutor's badge and said it was for a case so they let me inside."

"Wow, you're just as obsessed with showing your badge as I am."

"Oh never Wright! I would never be as much of a show off as you when it comes to my badge."

"Well it seems that you like mine."

Miles blushed and felt the blood rush to his head.

"Oh shush! Continue like this and I may never call you Phoenix again."

Phoenix began laughing but started wincing in pain, he placed his hand on his stomach and lied back down. It caused concern which made Miles rush to Phoenix.

"Phoenix are you okay?"

Phoenix who was still a bit out of breath answered back.

"Y-yes I'm fine, sorry. The doctor told me not to make too many sudden movements. I guess that counts as laughing too."

Miles still continued fussing, asking if he should send a doctor or if Phoenix wants anything. Phoenix stubbornly insisted that he was fine so it took a few minutes for Miles to calm down.

"Anyways, since it is quite late, is there a particular reason you came to visit me?"

"Uhh well there were a few... First of all I finally got some information I just wanted to show you my case. And also, I just thought... You were lonely. I mean here all by yourself."

"Thanks Miles, that means a lot."

Phoenix and Miles began talking about the case, soon after Miles began to feel pretty confident for tomorrow. He felt able to defend well and not let Phoenix down.

Now it was really late, Phoenix was to be discharged tomorrow evening so it was just one more day. Miles still didn't want to leave so he sat down in a chair from across the room. Phoenix continued talking but Miles soon found himself losing concentration, his hearing went in and out and he felt his hands grow heavy and limp. It didn't take long for Miles to fall asleep, he didn't want to but at least it meant Phoenix wouldn't be lonely for the night.
