Phoenix woke up gasping for air, his head burned and there was a IV drip attached above his bed. Whilst his eyes were still adjusting to the light Phoenix began to see the silhouette of a certain man. He tried to speak but realised his voice was too quiet and raspy to be heard, to wake up the man next to him Phoenix reached out his hand, every muscle hurt as he moved.
The man woke up before Phoenix even reached him, he jumped out of his chair and rushed to Phoenix's side. Once he was close enough, Phoenix finally recognised who it was that had been watching over him.
"Wright! I'm so relieved that you're alright. Does anything hurt? Do you want me to call a doctor? Tell me and I'll get everything you need."
Edgeworth began faffing around Phoenix, trying to help him, but Phoenix was so tired that all he wanted to do was go back to sleep. He couldn't remember much but slowly some things were coming back to him. Phoenix waved his hand to stop Edgeworth from panicking and told him to sit back down. His voice was still cracking but he managed to get out a single sentence. Phoenix told Edgeworth that he was fine. He wasn't. It caused Edgeworth to go into a fit about how Phoenix should be more careful and how it caused so much stress for everyone.
During this time Phoenix began remembering what had happened. His head rushed with flashing images and memories which caused him to feel a sense of heavy dizziness. Edgeworth helped him lay back down while he ran to get a doctor. Phoenix slowly succumbed to the tiredness and fell back asleep, as exhaustion came over him Phoenix began seeing the events of the night before.
That night
"Larry! Larry we have to go! Help me reach the phone we have to call the police!"
"Nick wait for me! You're running too fast!"
Phoenix kept running and trekking through the snow, he dragged his feet and could barely breathe by the time he reached the bridge.
"What! The bridge... I-it's on fire! Larry, Maya is on the other side! What if the murderer went over there? Maya's in danger!"
"Stop! It's too dangerous, look Nick that bridge looks like it's about to collapse."
Phoenix stood at the entrance of the bridge, two sides of him arguing on what to do. He wanted to run across that bridge, he had to save Maya. He knew that it was dangerous but this feeling inside him wouldn't just let him stand by and wait for the police.
"Larry, I have to go help her. I can't just be here when I know that one of my closest friends is in danger."
Phoenix began to run across the bridge, bright fire surrounded him and smoke filled his lungs making it incredibly difficult to breathe. The planks beneath him shook and Phoenix felt a deep sense of fear that he had to hold down. He continued running whilst Larry was shouting behind him, telling him to come back.
Suddenly everything began creaking, one minute Phoenix was running and the next he was tumbling through the air. The sky and water blended into one solid colour, Phoenix felt the wind cutting through his skin. He tried to grab onto something, anything but to no avail. Phoenix crashed into the water, it was ice cold and covered his sight in darkness, Larry was holding out his hand and shouting from above. The last thing Phoenix saw was the burst of orange and yellow flames from above, the water lapped over and Phoenix was dragged away.
After that everything had turned black.
