Chapter- 8: Nexus Begins

'This is of no help!' Rachel screamed at the laptop, frustration etched into her features.

'How's screaming going to help? Take a break, munchkin,' Lili exclaimed, putting down her phone. 'Unfry your brain first!'

'Anything but munchkin!' Rachel shot back, frowning. "Anyway, where's Jiwoo?"

'Home, obviously.' In the meantime, Rachel dialled Liu Jun.

'Jane! I found a job,' Jiwoo's voice sparkled through the line.

'Oh my, seriously?! Are you staying there then?'

'Yeah, the work is with the law & associates. But I'll visit you guys often.'

The happy tone in Jane's voice faded. 'Oh.'

'Why, are you not happy?'

'Yeah, I am. Come soon.' Jane hung up, leaving Jiwoo confused. Realization dawned on her; Jane didn't like that she'd be working with law enforcement to catch criminals. 'Oh, Jane...' Jiwoo sighed before catching the bus to Seorin.

'Lili, I haven't seen Ming for a while,' Rachel paused. 'Do you know where he is? He's unreachable."

'Umm, he went out with YeeJin.' Lili made a smug face. 'Something's gonna be spicy.'

Rachel looked at her in annoyance. 'Oh, by the way,' she handed her phone to Lili, 'Jiwoo's number.'

Once Jiwoo's number was saved, Rachel went to bed, dimming the lights and shutting her eyes to rest her frazzled brain. She needed to be sharp for the mission ahead. 'I'm sleeping for the night. See you tomorrow, alien!'

The next day was monumental for her; she would officially join Nexus. Despite the nerves, joy bubbled inside her. 'Oh, ho, ho, look who's here!' YeeJin chimed. Rachel's dark-brown hair covered her eyes, and her outfit exuded power. Lili stared at the beauty in awe.
