Collapse into me;
Just once.
And I promise,
You'll never have to fall again.*****************

Ava was stabbed, and I knew exactly why. I've known that family inside and out, their secrets stitched into the fabric of my mind. Ava did it all for her family, but that didn't make it right. Stubbornness ran through her veins like a poison she couldn't shake. I couldn't blame her for that, even if I wanted to. I'd planned to meet her, just the two of us, but of course, that sarcastic shorty had to crash the party. It's as if the devil himself had a crush on me.
'Why are you here, Lu Si Cheng?'
Great, just what I needed. Her bullshit was exhausting, yet I kept my calm, letting the darkness I carried inside shroud my thoughts. There's no point in letting her see what's going on in my head. Finally shaking her off, I made my way to Ava's room.
The door creaked open, a soft groan in the stillness, as if even it knew the weight of what lay beyond. The sharp scent of antiseptic clung to the air, mixing with the faint trace of lavender from a diffuser on the nightstand—a pitiful attempt to mask the reality. Ava lay there, her usual steel veneer shattered, replaced by a rare glimpse of fragility. The bandage wrapped around her waist was like a silent scream, a reminder of how close she had danced with death.
I moved closer, each step heavy, the echo of my shoes filling the room. Ava's eyes fluttered open, locking onto mine with a blend of surprise and something dangerously close to relief.
'Didn't expect to see you here,' Ava murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
I crossed my arms, masking the storm brewing inside. 'Just checking in. You still owe me for last time.'
She managed a small smile, weak but genuine. 'Thanks for coming.'
I gave a nod, a silent acknowledgement. I wasn't always this cold, this distant. But keeping the chaos inside me in check had become a necessity, a dark art I'd perfected over time. Ava and I—maybe we were more alike than either of us cared to admit. Two peas in a pod, except this pod was stitched together with secrets, lies, and a twisted sense of loyalty. 'Well, I'll leave now, yeah.'
'Hey, you just got here,' Ava's voice was a fragile whisper, laced with a desperation for company.
'I'll be back soon. Got something to handle,' I pointed out, keeping my tone as indifferent as I could manage.
'K, sure thing.'
With that, I slipped out of the room, only to be met by her again. Oh. My. Fucking. God. Is she a stalker now?
'Well?' she asked, trying to play it cool, but the tremor in her voice gave her away. I could practically hear her heart pounding against her ribcage like it was trying to escape. I locked eyes with her, too much concern for someone she barely knew. 'What?' I said, my tone as sharp as a blade.
She stepped closer, and for a split second, my breath caught in my throat. It was like the air around us was too thick, too heavy. No, I don't like her. Then why the hell does it feel like I'm suffocating? 'What did you talk about?'
Despite the strange knot in my chest, I smirked. Maybe I just loved getting under her skin. 'Nothing that concerns you.'
I saw her fists clench, half-hidden behind those tiny hips of hers, the urge to lash out barely restrained. 'It concerns me if it involves Ava. She's—'
'She's what?' I cut her off, my voice colder than I intended. 'Your girlfriend? Your responsibility?'
