"Are you going to be home any night this week?" "Mom- are you upset that I like- have friends?" "Mila, it's not that, I'm actually proud of the friends you've made. They're a lot better than your last friends".

"That's because her last friends were all upperclassmen who liked to party at clubs and college dorm rooms". "Polo! Shut up! I swear the only time you contribute to a conversation it's stupid. Why do you ever open your mouth?" "Whatever". "Yeah, whatever. Matter of fact, why are you still here? You're nineteen! Go to school or get a job or something!" He rolled his eyes and went upstairs to his room.

"Why don't you just invite these friends over for dinner. We can't be that bad-" "No, you're not. It's just, we-" "What could a group of sixteen year olds be doing every school night?" "Nothing! In fact, I'll bring them over after school. I've got to go, Ma, love you".

I rushed out the door to see Stiles blue jeep waiting for me.

"So, you know how you take me to school?" "Yeah?" "Well, my mother has been getting like nosy about my friends. She wants to like meet you and Scoot. Probably Alison too." "Okay, why don't I just go inside now?" "Well, like over dinner... tonight". "What? I can't tonight. I was gonna go to Lydia's and check on her!" he protested. "We can go after. I wouldn't want you to miss a chance of rejection once again". He opened his mouth as if to say something, then just put his car and drive and took off to school.

When he had mentioned wanting to see Lydia, I felt sweat start to form on my forehead. Why would that happen? My heart beat was getting faster. I liked Lydia. She's nice. She's a nice crush for him to have.

••••

The last bell rang and I went to find Stiles. "Okay, Lydia didn't even come to school today. Plus, Scott left with Alison. I don't think dinner is a good idea for tonight." "Then my mom will just think I'm avoiding it. You're going. Now let's go to Lydia's before it gets too late."

••••

"What are you two doing here?" "Just making sure you're okay." "Why?" Lydia asks inviding us to sit. "Because I was worried about you today. How you feeling?" She sat up to him and said, "I feel fantastic" right into his ear.

Lydia then dissociates repeating "I saw". My interest then peaked and I walked over to the side of the bed she was at. "What, Lydia you saw what?' "Like a mountain lion or something?" Stiles asked. "Mountain lion" Lydia responded, but her response didn't seem one hundred percent. "Are you sure it was a mountain lion or are you saying that because that's what the police told you?" She repeated herself again.

Stiles grabbed a stuffed giraffe and asked her what it was. When she replied yet again with "Mountain lion" he determined that she was so drunk or drugged out of her mind. We then decided to leave and let her rest. Until we saw Lydia's phone get a text of a video of what she saw that night.

"Take it and let's go, she's so loopy she'll probably think she lost her phone". "Are you sure?" Stiles ask me. I just looked at him before he ultimately decided to take it and leave."

••••

"Okay, so what are we going to do about the video?" "I mean, there's nothing we can do Stiles. It's already been taken. What we need to worry about is who took it and sent it."

We discussed more in the car, but there wasn't too much to discuss. We couldn't get a hold of Scott. He ditched school and apparently he ditched his phone too.

••••

The dinner table was quiet. All I could hear was the silverware on the plates. "So what happened to bringing friends Emilia? This is just a friend." "Well, Alison and Scott didn't even show up to school. And I'm sure you've seen the news. So you know about Lydia..." I responded to my mother.

"So, is this your boyfriend?" I started choking on my rice. "No, no, he, he likes someone else" I told my brother. "Someone else? So like, if he didn't, you would what? Want to date him?" "Aww, is someone projecting their feelings Polito?" that little comment from me earned a laugh from my dad.

"So, I hear you Dad is the sheriff". "Yeah, yep. That's my dad, the sheriff. That's his job." I hit Stiles on his leg. He's getting antsy. I can tell he's nervous. Not about meeting my family. About everything else.

"Okay, thank you mom for this amazing dinner. You always know how to do it. But I think Stiles needs to get home and do homework." "I do?" I stared at the dumb boy. How did he not pick up on what I was putting down? "Oh, I do. Thank you so much Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez."

I walked Stiles to his car and turned to go back inside. When I entered the foyer, I was met with my mother staring at me. "What?" "You like him don't you?" "No, he's just a friend. Am I not allowed to have those?" "You are it's just-" "I think I'm gonna go on a run." I said as I left to go change my clothes.
