"Okay, it's a new year. Are you excited?" my mom asked me. "I mean, it's probably gonna be the same, no? I've really just hung out with Scott, Stiles, and Lydia all summer." "The little boyfriend?" "Mom, he's not my boyfriend. We just went on one date". "So he could be? One day?" "Mom..." "What? I'm just saying. We just got back from Honduras a week ago and you haven't left the house other than to go on a run. We were gone for most of the summer". "Yeah, but before we left, I hung out with them." "So are you excited?" "More nervous, but I'll be okay, I need to go, Mom".

"What do you mean the deer hit the car?" "Exactly what I said. They were parked. Stationary. Then the deer just charged at their car. Scott said it was terrified." "Of what?" "I don't know" Stiles told me as we walked into the school.

"You know what's so weird Stiles?" "Hmm?" "The fact that I've been gone for two months and you didn't even greet me." "How was I supposed to know you were back? You didn't tell me you were." he asked me as I took a seat next to him in our English class.

"Fair point. I don't know, I just expected you to check in more than you did?" "I didn't wanna like smother you while you were visiting your family." "Right... what's with this new hair?" I asked him as I pushed my fingers through it.

"What? You don't like it?" "No, I do. The buzz may be gone, but never forgotten". "You're back all of five-"

We were instructed to read out of our textbooks but were interrupted by birds crashing into the windows. Eventually breaking the windows and swarming the room.

Stiles lunged over to me and grabbed me to pull me down to the ground.

The swarm didn't last long. It was so fast you wouldn't believe that it did happen. Except for the fact that the room was a total disaster.

"Lia, are you alright?" "Yeah, I'm good, are you?" "Yeah yeah, I'm good".

I stood in the classroom and didn't know what to say or do. I was scared. What was going on?
