Boys night

Prompt: Reece and Winter get to know each other a bit more and go for a few beers. Or the one where Reece is an over protective older brother

A/N: This is a little bit different, still Wintumn however I thought it would be cute to do Reece and Winter getting to know each other for the sake of Autumn. Maybe this won't work at all but I'm hoping it does and it ends up turning out the way I want. I hope you enjoy!!

"So..." Reece said awkwardly
"So..." Winter replied.
"Your dating my sister then"
"Yup", the two men looked at everything other than each other, why was this so awkward. Reece had met Autumns previous boyfriend all those years ago but never felt the need to get close to him. But for some reason (that Reece can't figure out) Autumn really likes Winter so they decided to get to know each other a bit more.

When they first met it had been at the nursery, they had bumped into each other in the hall and Reece decided that he liked Winter, he thought he'd be taller, but he was nice. After the height comment his sister very smugly, and to his disgust, let him know that what Winter may lack in height he makes up for in others ways.

So the two men sat next to each other drinking beers at the bar, conversation was happening but not flowing, really the only thing they had in common was Autumn.

"What are your intentions with my sister?" Reece spoke up suddenly, not looking at Winter. Winter looked at him, puzzled as to why he would ask that, anyone who knew the couple knew how much love they had for each other.

"Quite frankly Reece it hurts that you've even asked me that. You know how much I adore your sister, do you really not trust me that much?" Winter believed him and Reece could get along well, they both have the same dry sense of humour and know how to get a rise out of other people. However, on the other hand they both had the same dry sense of humour and knew how to get a rise out of other people, including each other.

"You know what growing up was like for us, I'm assuming she's told you. I have every single right to be worried about my little sister and who she's dating"

Winter felt a bit guilty and felt a pang in his chest when Reece brought up their childhood. Autumn hadn't told him much but he knew the important parts and he would never push his darling to tell him anymore than what she wanted. "I have all good intentions with Autumn, I can promise you that" Winter didn't know why he suddenly felt nervous being next to Reece, he now felt the need to want him to be impressed with how much he loves Autumn as if anyone needs that convinced to them.

Reece looked him up and down, he will admit Winter was handsome, he was his sister's type but he couldn't shake the feeling that he still needed to protect her. He had watched her go through some of the most painful things as a child and to see her start to settle down made him nervous. It was like he was letting her go in a way. "She's been through a lot"

"I know she has which is why I'm always looking out for her. Reece, Autumn is one of if not the greatest thing to ever happen to me. There's not a single thing about her that I don't adore. You have no need to worry about her, she's safe with me" he was basically pleading with him at this point which he felt a bit silly for, Autumn had told him before that her brother could be slightly protective but Winter never thought he'd be begging him for approval.

They sat in silence for a little bit, unsure on what to say to each other after that. Reece sipped on his beer which was starting to get slightly warm , he cleared his throat and said "she likes you a lot" Winter looked up at him and let him continue to make his point " I can tell, I've never seen her like this, not since she was 16 and brought home her first boyfriend, you have her feeling like a little kid again and she'd never tell you that but I can tell".

There it was, that slight bit of approval that Winter had been needing to hear from him, "thank you Reece, I appreciate you saying that, I care for her deeply and I've never felt like this about someone ever before. I love your sister a lot". Reece smiled at this, he truly wanted the best for Autumn and if Winter was the best for her then he had no reason to judge.

"She also talks about you a lot", Reece's ears pricked up as Winter spoke. "Oh yeah? What about me". Winter took a drink before continuing "Any time she talks about your childhood she always mentions how you were there to protect her. She adores you Reece and she appreciates you a lot more than you know." Reece was proud of this, he spent most of his childhood and all of his teenage years keeping her safe while at home, he should've moved out way before he did but could never leave Aut alone in that house with their dad, god knows what would've happened.

"Winter, I'll be honest with you, you seem like a good guy but you know I need her to be safe I need her to be happy, always, can you promise me that this is how your going to treat her" Winter sat and thought about what had just been said to him, of course he would keep her safe and there was still that ache in his chest when Reece would ask those kids of questions he really felt like he needed to prove his worth to his future in law.

"Reece, let me tell you something before I met your sister I was a shell of a man, I had no confidence, I had only even been with one other woman who broke my heart. I believed no one would ever want me. Then I met Autumn and I changed completely, she changed me for the better. She's the better half of me she keeps me grounded, she's given me a new outlook on life and I'm so much more confident when she's by my side, I never ever want to lose her and I need you to know that I will do anything and everything to keep her feeling loved and safe. I know you care about her Reece, but I do too and I think we could be good friends if we take care of her together rather than working against each other" Winter was rambling he knew that he was but he needed to get it off his chest.

Reece stared at him, stunned, "thank you for saying all that, I can tell you love her a lot and thank you for everything you've done for her she's so much happier with you, I've never seen her so content and ready to settle down"

The duo talked for a while longer, mainly about the girl they had in common until it got quite late. "Okay one more round and then we'll head off" Reece stated, order one more beer for the each of them.

"Winter" he said and winter looked at him waiting for him to speak again "Thank you again for everything you've done for Aut I really appreciate it" Winter smiled at him "Thank you for giving me your sister, she's really one in a million"

There drinks came and Reece held his glass out to winter waiting on him to 'cheers' them together "Here's to protecting Autumn" he said. "To protecting Autumn" Winter said gentle knocking the glasses together. They spent the next hour together before going their separate ways. That night Reece received a message from his sister. "Thank you for being nice, you're the best" he smiled, quickly replied a snarky comment and closed his eyes.

He thinks him and Winter could get along just fine.
