One look, dark room
Meant just for you
Time moved too fast
You play it back

No one could have predicted how the Halloween party could have gone for Autumn and Winter. At some points it felt like they were the only people invited. No one else mattered it was all about them.

The disco lights projecting around the darkened room were what made Autumn's eyes land on Winter, she couldn't help but smile at him dancing the night away in the middle of the dance floor. She liked that about him, he never cared what others had to say about him. She couldn't seem to pull her eyes away from him as he shook his hips to whatever song was playing.

She sipped on her drink and continue to look at him from above her glass when suddenly their eyes met. Autumn choked slightly on her drink as she watched Winter give her a small wave. The wave, the small smile, the eye contact. All of it was made for Autumn. It was for her eyes only and her body seemed to have a mind of its own as she waved back at him.

He made his way over and sat on the bar stool next to her. This was one of the moments it felt like they were the only people in the bar, in fact, in that moment it felt like they were the only people in the whole world. Time seemed to fly past as the two talked the whole night. Learning things about each other. Winter was charming, he was funny. Autumn was intelligent, with the same level of humour as Winter. Neither of the two would have guessed this if they hadn't spoke to each other.

That one night, that cold October night changed everything. While the rest of the staff got drunk on alcoholic drinks and danced to cheesy pop songs all night, Autumn and Winter got drunk off each other's words and danced around their own feelings for one another.

Small talk, he drives
Coffee at midnight
He says, "Look up"
And your shoulders brush
No proof, one touch
But you felt enough

After the party, the duo were spending a lot more time together. Getting closer, learning more things about each other. They had a lot in common, the same love for foods and fine dining, the same music taste. They had similar opinions on important topics and they both had never had someone listen to what they had to say before they got close.

Autumn could feel her feelings getting stronger but would never be the one to speak up about this. Despite being able to have these good conversations with Winter, they still had a lot of small talk to have. They worked together, they saw the same people every day, they still spoke about work, the weather, the news. A lot of this was done as Winter drove home from work with Autumn in the passenger seat, small talk about how their day had been, difficult parents and what they thought the rest of the week would entail.

Winter had spent the night at Autumn's place a few times since the party. This particular night he couldn't sleep, no matter how hard he tried he could get his mind to switch off from the beautiful woman lying next to him. She was perfect, she was everything he ever wanted in a partner. Smart, caring, attractive. Winter still couldn't believe he was even in this situation with her. He got up and went downstairs to make himself a coffee, coffee at midnight. He hadn't done that since he was in University, 19 and far too much to think about, not much had changed except he was older. He felt arms around his waist which made him jump slightly.

"The bed got cold, come back upstairs" she whispered. She looked at him and became concerned "are you okay?"

He turned around and gave her a sweet smile. "Sorry Autumn, I didn't mean to wake you, I couldn't switch off. Coffee?" Laughing slightly because who else would be drinking coffee at midnight.

"Ohh yes please"

Autumn would, Autumn would drink coffee at midnight. Winter fell harder for her in that moment, anyone else would think he was crazy, but not Autumn. As Winter went to grab another mug his shoulder brushed against Autumn's. They looked at each other, Autumns darker eyes staring deeply into Winters lighter ones. They started to lean in lips brushing against each other. The coffee machine beeped loudly making them jump apart. They stood against the cabinet in a comfortable silence shoulders pressed against each other.
