The Mystery.

It had been a few nights since the clash with the greyish-black wolf walker. The encounter still lingered in their minds, but life had to go on. Thomas had been scouting the forest, accompanied by the other wolves, ensuring their territory remained safe. Meanwhile, Kiyoko and Hiroshi had grown closer, their bond strengthening with each passing day.

During the daytime, the two new friends had settled into a semblance of normalcy. They both graduated, and their future seemed filled with endless possibilities. This particular day found Kiyoko and Hiroshi walking through the bustling streets of the city, accompanied by Takeshi and Kazuo.

The city was alive with activity, the sounds of chatter, honking horns, and street vendors filling the air. Kiyoko, with his casual yet sharp attire, and Hiroshi, now more confident and relaxed, walked side by side, their presence drawing curious glances from passers-by.

"So, what's the plan for today?" Kazuo asked, his usual easy-going demeanour evident as he slouched slightly, hands in his pockets.

"I heard there's a new arcade that opened up downtown," Takeshi suggested, though there was a hint of apprehension in his voice. He was always cautious, despite trying to appear brave in front of Hiroshi and the others.

Hiroshi grinned, nudging Kiyoko with his elbow. "Sounds like fun. What do you think, Kiyoko?"

Kiyoko smiled back, his eyes reflecting the excitement of newfound freedom. "Sure, let's check it out. We could all use some fun."

As they made their way to the arcade, the city's sights and sounds provided a sharp contrast to the tranquillity of the forest. The boys bantered and laughed, Takeshi and Kazuo fitting naturally into the group despite their differences.

Suddenly, Hiroshi paused, his senses tingling. He glanced around, his brow furrowing. "Did you guys hear that?"

Kazuo looked around, his expression puzzled. "Hear what? It's just the city noise."

But Kiyoko had also sensed something unusual. His eyes narrowed as he scanned the crowded street. "It's faint, but... there's something off."

Before they could dwell on it further, Takeshi pointed towards a narrow alley. "Look, over there."

In the shadows of the alley, a figure darted out of sight. The boys exchanged glances, their curiosity piqued. Despite Takeshi's usual apprehension, the mystery compelled him to follow."Let's check it out," Kiyoko said, his voice firm. The group cautiously approached the alley, their playful demeanour replaced by a sense of seriousness.

They turned the corner and found themselves face-to-face with a young man about their age. He had a wild look in his eyes, his clothes dishevelled as if he had been living on the streets for days. His appearance was strikingly familiar to Kiyoko, who realized this was the greyish-black wolf walker in human form.

"What do you want?" Hiroshi asked, his voice steady but filled with underlying tension. The young man looked at them, his eyes darting nervously. "I need your help," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "The forest... it's in danger."

Kiyoko stepped forward, his expression serious. "What do you mean?"

The young man took a deep breath, steadying himself. "There's someone trying to destroy it. They want to burn it down, and they won't stop until they succeed."

The group exchanged worried glances. Takeshi swallowed hard, his earlier bravado fading. "Who's doing this?" The young man's eyes darkened. "The mayor. He wants to develop the land. If we don't stop him, everything will be lost."

Kiyoko felt a surge of determination. "We won't let that happen. We'll protect the forest, no matter what." The young man nodded, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "Thank you. I'm Casper, by the way. And I'll do whatever it takes to help."
The group decided to bring Casper to the forest, but they were cautious. They didn't take him nor the other humans to their den, not wanting to compromise its location. Kiyoko and Hiroshi shared a wary glance; they couldn't fully trust Casper. There was something off about him, a hidden agenda they couldn't yet decipher.

As night fell, Kiyoko lay down on the grass, letting the cool earth soothe his nerves. Gradually, he drifted off to sleep, and his wolf spirit emerged from his body. The ethereal wolf looked at Casper, narrowing his eyes suspiciously before sprinting off in the opposite direction of the den. He needed to ensure the safety of their hideout.

Kiyoko's wolf spirit ran through the forest, his senses heightened. He circled back to the den behind the waterfall, moving with silent grace. As he approached, he found Thomas in his human form, sitting by the water's edge.

Thomas noticed Kiyoko's wolf and immediately sensed something was amiss. Understanding Kiyoko's silent plea, Thomas stood up and followed him. They navigated the forest together, Kiyoko leading the way through a series of intricate paths. They doubled back, making sure their trail was confusing, and eventually returned to the group from the opposite direction.

As they approached, Thomas's eyes were filled with suspicion. Casper looked up as they arrived, his expression unreadable.

"Thomas, Kiyoko," Hiroshi greeted them. "Anything unusual?"

Thomas shook his head, his eyes never leaving Casper. "No, everything seems fine for now."Kiyoko's wolf spirit stood beside Thomas, his posture tense. Thomas, picking up on Kiyoko's unease, decided to address the group.

"We need to be extra cautious," Thomas began, his tone firm. "Casper, you said the mayor is behind this?"

Casper nodded, his expression earnest. "Yes, he wants to develop the land. If we don't stop him, everything will be lost." Thomas narrowed his eyes, studying Casper intently. "And how exactly do you know this?"

Casper hesitated, then replied, "I overheard some conversations. The mayor doesn't hide his intentions well." Thomas glanced at Hiroshi and Kiyoko, then back at Casper. "We'll need proof. Something tangible. Until then, we can't just take your word for it."

Casper's face tightened slightly. "I understand. I'll help you find the proof you need."Kiyoko's wolf spirit remained vigilant, watching Casper closely. Thomas shared Kiyoko's mistrust, but for now, they had no choice but to play along.

"We'll keep you close," Thomas said, his voice carrying a warning. "But remember, any sign of betrayal, and you're on your own."

Casper nodded, the tension between him and the rest of the group palpable. Kiyoko's wolf spirit stayed close to Thomas, a silent guardian in the night.

As the group settled in, Thomas and Kiyoko knew they couldn't let their guard down. They were united in their mission to protect the forest, but the presence of Casper added a layer of uncertainty they couldn't ignore. The mystery of the mayor's plans and Casper's true intentions hung over them, but they were determined to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.
