FLASHBACK - Eleven months ago... No POV...

"Dad, what are the chances that you will let me smoke weed?" Emery asks Big John.

Emery, John B, JJ, and Big John are all on the pier.

Big John looks at his daughter confused, "Emery June, you are sixteen. Why would you need to smoke weed?" He asks her.

She shrugs, "marijuana was proven to actually be good for people. I think it would calm my nerves."

John B and JJ scoff then John B speaks, "what nerves Emery?"

Emery shrugs, "the nerves." She says shyly.

Big John shakes his head and JJ speaks, "you just want to get high."

Emery doesn't say anything so she doesn't have to agree or disagree with him.

John B speaks up, "if we both get A's can we smoke pot?" He asks Big John.

Big John looks at him and doesn't say yes, but he doesn't say no either.

"I think that is a yes." JJ says.

After Big John went missing, Emery got her hands on some weed and started smoking it.

She started smoking it more and more because it took her mind off of her dad and she wanted to think about anything but her dad.

It became an addiction. Along with drinking and smoking nicotine or snorting cocaine. She would do anything she could to take her mind off of things.

When she started getting into the harder stuff like cocaine, she started getting angry over small things.

Someone could breath too loudly and it would make Emery mad.

Then she started thinking that everyone had something against her, and she pushed everyone away.
