Emery's POV

School has never been my thing.

The only reason I am even going today is because it's the last day. Thank god...

I rub my eyes as I walk out of my bedroom. When I get to the living room I see JJ and Pope asleep on the pullout.

I walk into the kitchen and try turning on the coffee maker but it doesn't.

"Perfect," I mutter to myself.

"The power's out," a voice says from the living room.

I peak my head around the corner to see Pope sitting up on the pullout, rubbing one of his eyes.

I nod, "of course it is, I say before opening the fridge and grabbing a few water bottles.

I toss one to Pope, which he catches. Then I throw one at JJ, making him jolt awake.

He groans and rolls a little bit and Pope tells him that he needs to get up for school.

"I'm not going," he says with his groggy mornings voice.

I move to the lounge chair that is next to the couch as I tell him, "it's the last day. After this it will all me over with."

We all sit in the living room for a minute until John B come in.

"Why aren't you guys getting ready?" He asks us.

I sigh then get up and head to my room. I fish bump John B as I pass him.

"Morning sis," he tells me.

When I get to my room I rummage through my closet until I find a good enough outfit.

I end up with a blue tank top underneath a thin white button up that is probably John B's and light blue ripped Jean shorts.

I throw on my blue converse then walk out of my room.

Everyone is ready to go so we all pile into the Twinkie and drive to school.

When we get there, JJ is asleep in the backseat. Pope slams on the breaks, sending all of us forward.

"What the fhck dude," John B says as he runs his hands through his hair and unbuckles his seatbelt.

"We're here," Pope tells him as he turns off the engine. He then smacks JJ on the top of the head, "get up."

JJ ignores him and continues to sleep, unfazed from being thrown forward.

John B tries to wake him up but it doesn't work, so I lean over JJ's shoulder and tell him, "if you get up then I will give you one of my joints."

He immediately jumps awake and swings the door open before climbing out.

We all meet up with Kiara then walk into the school together. We hang out in the hallway until the bell rings, then we all go our separate ways.

JJ and I have our first period together and while we are walking to class, he drapes his arm over my shoulder, sending butterflies through my stomach.

Stop thinking like that Emery... it's JJ...

"I will take your compensation after school." He tells me.

I nod and say okay as we walk into our first period which is history.

Me and JJ go over to our desks. He sits in front of me and he spins his chair around to face me before sitting in it.

After everyone is settled in their seats, our history teacher, Mr. Sunn, walks up to the front of the classroom and starts speaking, "welcome class... can I please have everyone's attention?"
