I alternate my teaching schedule for Aziz. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It starts at one in the afternoon and ends at five in the afternoon. During my week of teaching him, our routine repeats. I’m already full of wonder because he knows the answers to almost everything I teach him.

Sometimes I wonder, does he really need a tutor? Maybe I should just talk to Miss Ysreal and tell her that her son has no problems with academics.

Then there’s Kerus, who said he would call me when Celeste leaves, but until now, nothing. He hasn’t even picked me up from home. Until now, I have no news about my cousin and when I think about it, I get annoyed.

So I texted Kerus.

From me:

What’s up?

I rolled my eyes.

“Goodness, Brivous! It’s been a month, but you still haven’t caught the rapist! Lahat ng anak mo ay babae! Baka nakakalimutan mo! I’m worried about Bridelle, who goes to school every day! And Bridgette, who goes in and out of the house and Aerthaliz! Ano?! Tumayo ka na riyan sa mismong upuan mo!”

I frowned. It’s been two weeks since I heard the conversation about the rapist roaming around our barangay. Until now, they still haven’t caught him, kaya pala mas lalong naging abala si Adi sa istasyon.

“Calm down, Aera. Kumiki—”

“Kumikilos?!” I heard mom’s cry. “Nakapasok ang rapist sa eskwelahan nila Bridelle at dalawang babaeng estudiyante ang nawawala! Ano ba?!”

I understand my mom.

From Kerus:

Where are you? I’ll pick you up.

I replied.

From me:

Bakit ngayon ka lang nagtext? Anong balita kay Celeste?

From Kerus:

Hurry up. I got too busy at city hall that I didn’t notice the time. Celeste is leaving at 9:00 am. Anong oras na ngayon? Faster, Aez.

My eyes widened at what I read, so I hurried to get moving. I also texted her that I was at home. While getting myself ready, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement because it’s been a long time since I last saw my favorite cousin.

“Dad! Mom! I’m leaving! I’m with Kerus po!” I shouted, nagmamadali sa paglabas.

“Umuwi ka ng maaga, Aerthaliz! Nag-aalala ang mama mo!” sigaw din ni dad sa akin gamit ang baritonong boses.
