If someone had told me that my water would break hours after the Jaguars big basketball game and victory, I would have laughed and thought it was too extreme. However, that turned out to be exactly what happened. After the win against the Knicks, I felt my water break while celebrating with friends and family. Initially, I couldn't believe it was happening two weeks before my due date, but the sharp pain made it clear that the baby was ready to arrive.
I was in Sonia's kitchen, at the time, with the ladies chatting away. Jermaine was in the living room with his homeboys watching game highlights, still buzzing with adrenaline. As I tried to process what was happening, Sonia noticed my panicked expression and quickly stepped in to help.
She hurried over to me, reassuring me that everything would be fine. Jermaine came rushing into the kitchen, his eyes wide with worry as he saw me in pain. He was in shock at first, but quickly sprang into action, gathering our things and rushing me to the hospital. The adrenaline of the basketball game victory was quickly replaced with the nervous anticipation of childbirth.
Arriving at the hospital, the sounds of beeping machines and the smell of antiseptic filled the air. Nurses and doctors bustled around me, preparing for the arrival of our little one. Despite the unexpected timing, Jermaine remained calm and supportive by my side, holding my hand and offering words of encouragement.
The contractions were intense, coming in waves that seemed to wash over me with increasing strength. I focused on my breathing, trying to stay calm and focused as the pain grew more intense, this is where lamaze class came in extremely handy.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the moment arrived. The doctor announced that it was time to push. Words can't describe how painful it was. I gripped Jermaine's hand tightly, squeezing with all my strength as I pushed through each contraction, I could feel the exhaustion kicking in.
Jermaine spoke. "You're doing amazing, babe. Just a little bit more, we're almost there." His words gave me the strength and motivation to keep going, despite the intense pain and fatigue. The doctor and nurses guided me through each push, coaching me every step of the way.
And then, finally, the moment we had been waiting for arrived. With one final push, our beautiful baby boy was born, crying and squirming in the doctor's arms. The room filled with a sense of joy and relief as we gazed upon our precious little one.
As I held our baby for the first time, tears of happiness streamed down my face. He was literally the splitting image of Jermaine, with dimples that lit up his little face. I was only able to hold him in my arms for a little bit, the doctor explaining that they needed to run some tests and make sure he was healthy. I watched as they whisked him away to the nursery, feeling a mix of emotions -
The hours passed in a blur of doctors, nurses, and check-ups. When we were finally able to hold our baby boy again, it was a moment of pure bliss. He snuggled into my chest as I fed him, his little fingers curling around mine. Though I had to stay in the hospital for two nights, having my baby in my arms and Jermaine by my side as well as family and friends visiting, was all I needed.
