Too much. . .
"Hey! So, I was wondering, would you maybe want to come over to my house for dinner tonight? My mom's making Talapia and she says that there will be a bunch left, so would you mind helping us out with it?"
I stand with my eyes wide open and blink repeatedly, not exactly knowing what to do.
"Amabel?"
"Yeah! Yeah, I'm here."
"Well, you don't have to come if you don't want to, it's not really that formal-"
"No! No Matt, I want to come. But-"
"Oh, great! Then it's settled. Dinner is at seven so I'll pick you up at six."
"Um, well. . ."
"See you tonight then! Love you!"
And just like that, he hangs up. Oh no. I don't really know if I can do this.
But I can. I know I can do this. This is perfect. I can get over this tiny Thomas thing that is happening and have this amazing relationship I am in work out.
Wait a second. . . Did he say I love you?
I freaking love you?
This is not okay. Not okay. I don't love Matt. I couldn't love him. Well, at least, not yet. But how, how could he love me?
Whatever. Maybe Matt falling in love with me could be a good thing. It will steer me away from Thomas and keep my head above water (metaphorically, of course, since Thomas is obviously the better swimmer). But still, I've only known him for a few weeks. Love? Really?
I decide to text Lilia, my advice guru.
Hey. We've got a problem.
Hey! What's going on?
Matt "loves me" apparently?
Oh, that is not good. Thomas has been nice to lay low and take all of your "dating" crap, but I don't know what he'll do if he finds out about this. . .
Thomas will be fine, but how could Matt love me? He's rushing into things.
Okay, for one thing, Thomas will NOT be fine. Don't you ever wonder how much pain you've caused him? And two, I don't think Matt loves you either. You've only gone out on a few dates with him, so I think he might be trying to take possession of you.
Like, he's jealous of Thomas?
Exactly. But when did he tell you?
Just now over the phone. I almost missed it. I'm going over to his place for dinner tonight.
Let me guess. You're meeting his parents?
Yup. I guess you could be right about that possession thing. . .
Of course I'm right! Well, try to make sure tonight that you get the point across to Matt. He needs to calm down. If he doesn't, jealousy can be taken to a whole new level.
Matt would never do anything too bad. . .
Wouldn't he? You've only known him for a few weeks. . .
Yeah, I guess your right. Thanks. I have to get ready, ttyl.
I turn off my phone with a spotify playlist humming through its speakers. I am slightly hurt about what Lilia said about me hurting Thomas, and I can feel the guilt pooling in my stomach. I walk over to my closet, rifling through it to find my summer dress that I planned to wear. It was a casual white flowing dress that I was going to wear with a pair of nude flats. Once I pick out the items, I walk downstairs to find Thomas in his room. I smack myself down on his bed and groan into his unmade covers, breathing in his scent.
"What's wrong with you?" Thomas asks.
I turn myself into my side to look at him.
"Nothing. I'm going over to Matt's tonight."
"Okay."
I turn my face back into my covers as he looks at his laptop.
"Do you wanna make lunch plans with Lilia?" Thomas asks, checking his watch.
"Yes." Thomas laughs.
"That was a very definite response. I'm proud, Lama."
"Well I'm not usually a very definite person, am I?" I say, thinking about my current twisty love life.
"Nope. I'm calling her."
"Okay." I say, and watch Thomas as he holds the phone up to his ear. I laugh as he makes stupid faces at me while it rings.
"Hey! Lilia! Do you wanna come out to lunch with Amabel and I today? . . . Um, well, no, I don't know where. . . Anywhere is good with us, really. . . Okay! See you!" He sighs after he hangs up. He was stuttering in that call. Why was he stuttering in that call?
I gasp and sit up, scaring Thomas in the process.
"Woman! What do you want from me?" He asks, a hand over his heart.
"YOU LIKE LILIA."
"What? No, I don't."
"YES YOU DO. YOU STUTTERED." Thomas rolls his eyes at me, looking at his laptop.
"Okay, fine, I stuttered. And maybe I do like Lilia. What do you care?" I am taken aback by his coldness and I sit back down, deflated. Thomas looks back up at me from his laptop, giving me a Newt stare.
"Look, I'm sorry. I know that was uncalled for." I frown at him and stand up.
"Your face is uncalled for." I say and throw a pillow at him before storming back up the stairs to my room. I sit back down on my bed and attempt to think things over. Matt loves me, Thomas likes Lilia. Things are moving too fast for me.HAIIIIII YA'LL BABIESSSSSSS
