Furukawa
The Uninhabited Island; Class D's Base Camp
Following Horikita's directions, I stayed behind in our camp, keeping watch of our base while my classmates were off to find more food and resources. As for Horikita, she had gone off to chase down Tabiuchi Hana, the spy I found from Class C not too long ago. As the storm raged on and the rain continued pouring down, there was nothing much to do except to wait for them. Minutes passed, turning to hours. I wonder if something has happened. Not with the groups, but with Horikita. If it was only Tabiuchi, only one person, she should've been able to handle it.
Suddenly, I heard a rustle and turned. Coming out of the woods, I look to see Karuizawa along with Ogawa, Hano Asuka, and a few other girls. In their hands, they had fruits and vegetables they had gathered from their search.
"Oh, Furukawa-kun," said Karuizawa.
"Welcome back," I said.
Karuizawa looked around and frowned. "Where's Horikita-san? Is she still..."
I shook my head. "She's fine. She had gone off to look for something, so I stayed behind to watch the camp."
"I see."
Of course, she was fine the last time I saw her. Much time has passed since then and there was no sign of her coming back. Something may have indeed gone wrong. Seeing that Karuizawa and a few of them had returned, I decided to take this opportunity.
"Do you mind if you watch the camp?" I asked.
"Sure, but where are you going?"
"I'm going to look for Horikita. She may have gotten lost," I replied.
"Alright then. Be careful, Furukawa-kun."
The Uninhabited Island; Open Field
Following the direction where she headed and the footprints left behind in the mud, I eventually made my way to a small open area. There was nothing and no one here except an unconscious Horikita lying on the ground. I walked towards her and crouched down. She was groaning, exhausted and in pain. At the very least, she was still alive.
"Ugh..." Horikita slowly opened her eyes and they met mine. "Fu...rukawa-kun...?"
"You look terrible," I said. "How're you feeling?"
"...Weak...and tired..." Rather than acting tough, she gave me an honest answer. That alone made it easier for me.
"I assume they know who you are now?" I asked, looking off to the side to see a keycard on the ground.
"Yeah..." As Horikita said before, she was too weak. From the look of her condition, it doesn't seem like she could handle herself on her own. Grabbing her keycard and putting it into my pocket, I grabbed her and carried her in my arms. "What...are you doing...?" she asked.
"You're obviously in no condition to move on your own," I replied. "You can either lie here in the rain, or let me take you back so you can fully recover. It's your choice." Horikita was silent, but it seemed like she was fine with it.
Going back to the camp didn't seem like a good idea for Horikita. What she needed was medical attention from the school, considering she was sick from eating yew shrub berries. Luckily, I remembered where the ship was thanks to the GPS on my wristwatch.
The Uninhabited Island; the Beach
Using it as my guide, I arrived at the ship safely with Horikita. Near the entrances of the ship, I saw the same tents that were set up on the day we arrived here. There, Matsubara-sensei and the other homeroom teachers were on their computers, monitoring all of us.
"Hm?" Matsubara-sensei glanced in my direction and was shocked to see me. She got up from her chair and rushed over to me. "What happened?"
"She fell ill," I replied. "I don't think she can go on anymore. She needs medicine immediately." Matsubara-sensei checked Horikita and looked up at me.
"I'll take her on the ship to see a doctor. As for you, you'll be late for morning roll call. You know what all of this means, yes?" I nodded, then Matsubara-sensei took Horikita from my arms and she left. I turned around and started to head back to my class, but then I stopped.
Since I'm not going to make it back, I might as well check it out.
