Adam & Payten

When Payten left for her OB appointment, Adam got to work on preparing her surprise birthday dinner. He knew as she got further along in her pregnancy, she didn't like a lot of people around as it stressed her out which gave her a bad headache, which ultimately was bad for both her and the baby.

So his plan was to cook a dinner for the both of them, which saved money from going out and it would also be in the quiet and comfort of her own home. He thought he'd keep it simple and make her favourite dish, which was fettuccine Alfredo with a side of salad and a bakers potato.

As Adam planned this day, he made sure that Paytens friends kept her out for a little bit after appointment, to give him enough time to make sure everything was ready for her when she got home. They bugged him too, knowingly but he knew that they would never outright tell Payten.

For days, he's had this planned, buying everything in secret, getting his mother to send him her recipes, knowing how much Payten loved his mother's cooking from when they were younger.

As the days went on, he watched Payten. He knew that it was bothering her with her birthday coming up, because it was her first birthday without Alek. Adam also knew that Alek would do things for her but he never knew what so he thought he'd go safe and just make dinner and watch a movie with her.

He referred back to his phone a million times, following the recipe to a T, wanting it to be almost exactly like his mom's for Payten. While he waited for the sauce to thicken up and the potatoes to be cooked, he got to work on making the whipped filling for the potatoes.

He searched the kitchen, looking for her mixer.

After he had the filling made and set it in the fridge to stay cool, he decided to clean the kitchen up a bit before moving onto the next task, dicing the toppings for the potatoes.

He heard his phone go off while he was putting away things in the pantry, but left it alone until he was done. He had just put the green onion into the chopping board when his phone dinged again, reminding him of the message. Taking a moment, he leaned over his phone unlocking it with Face ID to read the message.
