Chapter 9, rain

You sighed quietly to yourself as the last light of the day was quickly turned into darkness as dark grey thunder clouds rolled in over the horizon. You hurriedly called your crow down onto your shoulder and pulled your haori over your head in an attempt to mimic a rain coat.

Despite the unpleasant turn of weather, and your secret love for the tears of the sky that were soon to leak, you continued trudging through small markets, towns and even small patches of forest to get back to your estate.

"Only a little bit more to go!"

You said with a cheery smile to your crow, who was huddling close to you. Your haori was mostly soaked but you continued to shield the bird on your shoulder from the never-ending rain. It was cold, very cold. But you didn't dare stop to sit down in fear of being attacked while you rested, so you gritted your teeth and walked faster, running even.

In the dead of the night, when the rain had finally stopped you made it back to your residence. It took much longer then you had planned, the water flooding the small paths and alleys you planned to use, so you had to walk the long way back. You yawned as you stepped into the house, sliding off your slippers in the genkan before finding your way to your room through the dark. Your house was reasonably small for someone as rich as you, but you liked it, it was similar to your childhood home.

You didn't even get the chance to slip out of your drenched uniform before you slipped under the duvet on your futon. You quickly slipped into a well deserved sleep. Your aching body soaking up the gentle warmth and caress of the moonlight seeping onto you from the paper of the shoji doors.

Unlike your quick entry into sleep, Sanemi lay awake on his futon. Staring at his ceiling as a cool wind along with tinges of your scent wafted into his room. He couldn't fall asleep, his mind was too busy thinking about no one other than you. He couldn't make any sense of it, the way you spoke, your never-leaving smile, your caring attitude, the sparkle in your eyes, the tender caress of your supple skin, it was so intoxicating. He didn't know or understand why you were such a drug to him. He never had felt like this around anyone before, it was so strange for someone as you to slip into his life and change his perspective on everything.

As the morning sun rays prickled your skin you shuddered slightly, rolling onto your back as your eyelids flickered open. Only to be met with the boring sight of your ceiling. Yet, no matter how much you searched in your senses for anything else, your mind kept turning things back to Sanemi.

Even as you made your way out to your kitchen, pulling out ingredients for food, you were reminded of him with every move you made. It was almost impossible to deny, you were utterly smitten. But the question rang loudly in your ears, was he too, infatuated?
