I wasn't sure what had happened, but all of the fighting had come to a rather abrupt halt. I still couldn't hear, so everything said to me was silent. When Vasco noticed the bleeding from my ears and realized that I couldn't hear, he burst into tears. I couldn't tell what he was saying, but Zack used his phone to type out a message I could read.

He suggested that I needed to go to the hospital, and I agreed. I tried to figure out what happened, but Zack said the explanation would take too long and that I'd need to see a doctor first. Vasco took me to the hospital while crying the whole way there.

And that was where we were now, sitting in a hospital room waiting for the doctor to come in after a nurse had already taken my vitals. Vasco was holding my hand and sniffling with his eyes red and puffy. I softly sighed and reached over to gently wipe away his tears.

"I'll be okay, Eun Tae." I said and saw his mouth moving when he spoke. I couldn't quite tell what he was saying in response. His head suddenly turned, and I followed his gaze to see the door opening before a doctor walked in.

The doctor's mouth moved as he was looking at the clipboard in his hand. I glanced at Vasco to see him nodding and his lips forming the word 'yes'. When the doctor looked up from his board, he paused while staring at Vasco.

I could see the concern growing on his features as he looked between Vasco and I. The doctor scribbled something down while getting closer, then showed me his clipboard. I saw words scrawled on the corner of the top page.

  'Did he hurt you?'

I laughed while waving my hand.

"No. This is Eun Tae, he's my boyfriend. I was attacked, and Eun Tae saved me." I said while gently squeezing Vasco's hand. The doctor seemed skeptical but relaxed a little. "I can't hear at all, so you might have to keep writing for me to understand." He nodded before writing down that he wanted to take a look at my ears.

Vasco continued to talk to the doctor who responded while grabbing a tool to look in my ear with a light. I could only sit and wait patiently as the doctor looked at both of my ears and saw the extent of the damage. He ended up having to get tweezers and cotton to clean out the blood that had been left behind.

When his examination was over, he taped gauze over my ears after explaining that I needed to avoid loud spaces or sounds while I healed. Vasco's thumb gently rubbed over my knuckles in a comforting manner as the doctor let me know that it would take time for my eardrums to heal. He also said there was no way to be certain if my hearing would fully come back until the ruptures closed, so I should be prepared in case I had permanent partial hearing loss.

The doctor said he didn't think I'd lose full hearing in either of my ears, but he couldn't say for certain yet. He prescribed me antibiotic ear drops to help and set up an appointment in a few weeks to check on how I was healing.

Whoever that guy was who hit me, to cause this much damage, was more dangerous than I thought.

Vasco walked me home, still never letting go of my hand the entire time. My parents were still at work which gave me some time to think of how to explain everything to them. Going to my room, Vasco followed me.

Entering my room, I went over to my desk and got out my headphones. I put them on for extra protection and held them in place while staring at my desk.

I'd been in my fair share of fights, from challenges to enforcing turf boundaries, but this was escalating beyond anything I had ever been a part of. There was more beneath the surface that I couldn't yet see. Firstly, I needed to know what happened to make all of the fighting suddenly stop.
