In the forest of Flagstaff, Arizona, a young teenage girl named Alexandra Witwicky was hiking through the woods. Once again, she had gotten lost.

"My parents really should keep some kind of tracking device on me, or something. I bet Maze has one at ready...she probably was waiting for me to get lost again and ask her,"

she thought out loud to herself, trying to calm her nerves. She was used to getting lost, but this was the first time she had gotten lost in the woods during her family camping trip. She was hiking in her favorite 'Uncle Sam' t-shirt and tattered navy blue jeans, while carrying a camouflaged backpack with a few supplies in it. One of those items was her light blue I-pod nano, which she named Leonardo.

"Instead of bringing an I-pod, I should have probably brought a walkie-talkie or phone. Oh, well. Maybe I should ask Sam to let me borrow Rover one day,"

Rover was a small robot that her older sister, Mazikeen made for her older brother, Samuel. Putting her wavy brown hair up in a ponytail, she was ready for business.

"Time to figure out the way back to the people who give me food and protection for free,"

She nodded as she headed in a random direction. Alexandra guessed that she had been lost for over an hour, or at least around that time; she wasn't exactly sure. Her sense of direction was bad, but she got distracted by what sounded like thunder. She looked up, just in time, to see some type of meteor fly over and crash not that far ahead.

"To investigate or not to investigate...investigate."

She knew the saying "curiosity killed the cat," but she just had to check it out. She ran in the direction of the meteor and found the area where it landed. She cautiously approached the edge of the crater to take a peek inside. She wasn't sure what to expect, but what she found was just shocking! Inside the large hole in the ground was a gigantic robot. She couldn't tear her eyes away from how amazed she was about her discovery. While she was staring at it, she noticed just how banged up the robot looked. The robot had gaping holes, dents, scratches, and dirt. The damage looked pretty bad, and some light blue liquid leaked out in some places. It looked painful.

"Ouch."

After she spoke, the robot's eyes onlined a gold color. Her eyes widened in fear as she thought,

'Oh crap, I woke it up...'

She dared not to move. After a few seconds of uncomfortable silence, the red and blue robot moved its head in her direction, looking at her. She couldn't help but think,

'I lived a good life, short, but still good. Oh, Maze is gonna kill me,'

She unconsciously took several steps backward, tripping over her own feet and landing on her behind with an audible yelp. Horrified that it saw her move, she froze on the ground, watching the robot observing her.

Upon hearing a voice, Optimus knew he wasn't alone. Onlining his optics for the first time, he gets a glimpse of the alien world on which he has landed. The ground was naturally dirt instead of metal, and large green and brown things came out of it. Looking for the owner of the voice he heard, Optimus found a small creature that had a similar body structure to his kind. He knew that he frightened it as it backed away from him, and then fell. Tilting his head to the side in curiosity, Optimus also sensed that it was intelligent. Scanning the area, he picked up a metal device hovering above him in the atmosphere. Focusing a signal on the satellite, he was able to hack into it and download information about the planet he was on, Earth. He learned the languages and customs of its inhabitants, along with a lot of other things. Afterward, he looked back toward the human he discovered. It was obvious that he scared it again because it hurriedly scooted back and away from him. Its sudden movements made Optimus jump back in surprise, but forgetting the horrific condition his body was in, he groaned painfully over the sounds of his crumbling body.

The awful noises the robot made sent up red flags for Alexandra. Something was obviously wrong with it. It seemed in pain, but robots didn't feel pain, did they? Did Rover feel pain? Maybe she would ask him after. Not feeling that scared of it anymore, since she noticed that she actually made it jump, she got up and gradually started walking back toward the robot.

Optimus slowly looked back at the human approaching him. He noticed her features no longer showed fear, but rather, sympathy. The girl stopped at the edge of the crater and took another look at his wounds. Her worried look turned into a nervous smile as she looked into his huge, gold eyes. She didn't need to say anything for Optimus understood what she was saying with her eyes, 'I can see that you are in pain, but are you okay?' He returned the nervous smile, which made Alexandra no longer feel scared. She was still in for another surprise, though, for he spoke.

"Little One, what is your name?"

From what Alexandra could tell, the robot's metallic voice sounded male. It was soft, comforting, and yet, very commanding. This robot wanted an answer, so answering the best she could, she said,

"My name is Alexandra. Who are you?"
