Max pushed past the long dry grass that both stabbed and caressed their knees, they sighed at a particularly hard jab to their skin before they kicked the grass away, their shoulders slumped as they turned around from the forest they had just emerged from.
On the other side of it was a baren wasteland, a couple yellow hills were in view but that was about it, the land was covered in pale yellow grass that both greeted and assaulted them.
Max leaned down to grab a handful and ripped it from the ground, they burnt easily and quite quickly, so they could be used as kindling for fire.
They stopped, grabbing a map out of the pocket to inspect their path, half a day ahead would be a river and a full day would be a mountain, decorate with trees, Max looked up, they could faintly see its grey outlines, a pyramid in the distance.
They slipped the map into their back pocket, clutching onto the arms of their rucksack they stepped their best foot forward, they needed to be in a good mind set if they were going to leave everything, they had ever known, in order to not destroy it.
It took an hour to get out of the field of passive-aggressive grass and too an area with flat land, beside a couple of large rocks which splattered the grass and hid bugs and insects under them, Max discovered as they kicked one and a large centipede was there to greet them.
Half a day later, Max found themselves in the company of the glass river, the running water was clear, it always clear, Max reasoned with themselves as they sat against a large boulder.
The sun was setting as Max kicked off their boots which had scarring made from the grass all those hours ago.
They rested their head against the stone and sighed, crossing their arms and legs they didn't have the energy to eat, or crunch the food with their molars, or clench their muscles and produce saliva from their salivary glands to swallow-Agh!
That was tiering to think about how the human body processed food, why were they even thinking about it in a time like this?
Max wiped the saliva that dripped from their mouth and onto their chin, it was thick as it sank into their glove and made a home in it, eww.
They snorted before spitting what had remained in their mouth to the side of them, they always found it was funny that you kept and swallowed saliva much over seven times a day, didn't mind how it went down your throat, until it left your mouth, even if it only dared to drip onto your lips.
Max shook their head, that was way too much thinking, they pulled their rucksack bag of their back and searched through it, when they were elbow deep in it, they found a small pillow to rest their head on.
They zipped up their rucksack and laid it beside them, they fluffed up the pillow before they placed it right beside the boulder and curved their spine to have their back on the cool rock and head on the feather filled silk pillow.
Their tail flicked as they curled their knees into the chest and held onto them tightly, this would all be over soon, they would go home, they would rest in a bed.
Soon.
They just had to make sure they wouldn't kill anyone.

Miss Sissy Iris yelped as the door to Father Yamato's bedroom was almost knocked off its hinges, Mr and Mrs Constellation had thrown open the door.
"Where is he!" Mr Constellation snarled.
The cat hissed and rushed to their witch's side, leaping into her arms with fur flared up, Apollo was quick to fly to his wizard's bedpost and grip his talons into the wood.
