Now, Max needed to work on their magic, Corvus was getting tired of staying in the forests plain for the rest of the time Max was trying to control their magic, so he shifted and ran day and night into the woods.
Meanwhile, Max did those things they saw in films and sat in the plain, rucksack leaning against a tree and Corvus nowhere to be seen, Max crossed their legs, hands on their knees, back straight, they focused on their breathing and world around them.
It kinda worked.
At least until a wolf bounded into them and they were crushed under the weight of Corvus.
"Get off me!" Max exclaimed as they batted the wolf's side, Corvus's snout was open saliva threating to drip onto Max's face, breath disgusting and way to warm for Max's comfort.
Instead, the wolf got comfortable and rested his paws on Max's chest and big furry head on Max's neck, the wolf was way to warm.
"We're supposed to be on a spiritual retreat, not rough housing." Max explained as they tried to arch their back in hopes the wolf would slide off, instead it curled its legs and wag its tail repeatedly, batting Max's legs.
The wolf rose its head and looked to Max, tilting its head. "You can still do it." He seemed to say. "Just with me here."
The wolf woofed back into Max's neck and wagged its tail, much faster batting against Max's legs.
Max sighed and leaned their head down, taking in the landscape from a different angle, everything was upside down though as Max looked straight ahead of them, to the sky, it seemed like they could walk forward and touch the clouds like they were brushing their hand against a wall they were walking by.
Max closed their eyes and after a moment the weight on their body shifted, it became lighter as limbs straddled their waist.
"Is it working?" Corvus asked, Max saw a wide smile on the werewolf's face as they opened their eyes, black fur shrank back into the boy's face and his tongue became thinner and smaller as it rolled back into his mouth.
"I don't know, we have to wait and see." Max said simply and the boy huffed a sigh, his vocal cords still shifting back as he looked from side to side, searching the area.
"What about a little talk?" Corvus asked and Max looked to him, intrigued.
"What about, a little talk?" Max asked.
"I found a town." Corvus said and Max paused, there wasn't supposed to be any town near the forest.
"I beg your pardon?" Max stated.
"I found a town on the outskirts of the forest, and I was wondering if you could talk with the shop owner." Corvus asked.
"You." Max propped themselves up on their elbows and the boy slid down. "Went to a town, as you ran through the forest as a wolf?!"
"Don't worry I shifted back, anyway I found this really cool store, with lots of candy." Corvus explained, saliva seemed to fill his mouth at the very mention of sugar filled treats.
"And?" Max asked as the boy had paused. "Did you bring any money?"
"Of course, I did-but that's not the problem-"
"So, what's the problem?" Max asked.
"If you'll let me explain!" Corvus growled, his vocal cords shifting for a split second.
"Of course, sorry, carry on." Max swallowed as they leaned their face to the sky.
Corvus's weight shifted on their body for a spilt second, like he was contemplating something, his hands tightened on Max's shirt, gripping it as pressed his lips into a thin line.
