Today. The battle was today. Celestial nervously paced in the small den she had made in a nearby hill. It had a few necessities she had stolen from the camp when they hadn't noticed; snacks, ambrosia, and her weapons. She looked at her black cloak, the one she had been wearing ever since she had joined Eris. It was even better than the one she had before, with extra hidden pockets, hidden armor under the cloth, and Eris's crest pinned on it. She ripped off the pin, and carefully slipped it on.
She regularly spied on the camp, seeing what defense mechanisms they used and how they fought. She was actually a bit impressed. The Stoll brothers had managed to set a bunch of traps to catch the demi-gods and Wraiths, which had some relation to a tone of slime and nets. The Demeter kids had grown plants as a barrier to protect the camp, the Hypnos kids had practiced their lullabies to make the enemies fall asleep, and so many other demi-gods had trained and trained their powers and skills to defend their camp.
It was kind of heartwarming, actually.
Meanwhile, Eris's camp had been brutally training for the battle, their swords sharper and goals lethal. She shivered when spying in the bushes, knowing she had once worked for them. She had rarely seen Eris; the goddess had been relaxing in her large, mystical tent on where she would reside until the battle.
Celestial knew her intentions. Eris would first use her little puppets as a distraction for the camp, slowly wearing them down, then strike with the final blow. She'd probably reveal her true goddess self, which was deadly to see if looked at too long. Then everyone would be dead, and she would be content.
Eris only wants to wreak chaos. That's what she's the goddess of. She doesn't care who she kills, as long as there is a horrible effect to it. And she thinks the gods won't stop her, because it's her job. As brilliant as the plan seemed to be, Celestial had found a fatal flaw when she discovered this. And she exploited it.
"Yo! Styx! You there?" She called out to the goddess, hoping she would respond. Celestial rolled her eyes and started tapping her foot on the floor.
"Styyyyxxxx!! Styxy Styxy Styxy Styyyyyyyyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!" She yelled again, waiting for a response. In a flash of silver light, the goddess stood in front of her, clearly annoyed at the rudeness of the summoning.
"Excuse me, that is not-"
"Yep, I know, you can punish me later. Anyways, remember that broken oath? Ima need you to fulfill it soon," Celestial informed her. The goddess crossed her arms, sliver light sparking at the movement.
"I am not a dog to be called upon when needed. But, I am intrigued. What are you planning?" the goddess asked, curious. So Celestial explained her plan, on how she would exploit Eris when the goddess had just revealed her true form. Styx raised an eyebrow.
"You do realize," She started, a sliver light gracefully flying around her. "That you will need a forcefield much stronger than that? I doubt your mortal powers could contain such energy," The goddess sniffed, raising her nose.
"I know. That's why you'll set the forcefield," Celestial said impatiently, tapping her foot. Styx shot up.
"What? Me? Set up the forcefield? Preposterous! I am only here to punish Eris for her broken oath, nothing else," Styx said, not meeting Celestials eyes. Celestial knew there was more to that.
"Butttt....?" She started, hoping for more. After a few moments, Styx let out a sigh and unfolded her arms
"But I suppose I could put up a forcefield, seeing she broke a double oath, so it technically gives me every right. But child, you do know that I cannot both punish her and put up a forcefield at the same time? That's too much energy. I would need someone to carry the power of the forcefield for me," Styx said. Celestial nodded.
"Oh, I know that. That's why I'll hold the energy for you," Celestial shrugged her shoulders, knowing what was to come. Styx gasped.
"But- child! That will-"
"Kill me. I know," Celestial said grimly. This is what she had planned for. She was willing to die, if it meant saving her friends. And if it all worked out, Leo would tell them the truth. Styx gave her an amazed look.
"I have never seen somebody wait for a moment to strike down their enemies. And I have never seen someone wiling to die as well. You truly are special, Celestial," Styx noted. Celestial snorted and rolled her eyes. Special could mean many things, and she didn't like it.
"I will complete your favor, child. I hope all ends well for you, though," Styx nodded, then slowly faded away. Celestial smiled.
She knew it wouldn't.
But she was alright with that.
