September 15th

As soon as I opened my eyes, he crossed my mind immediately, remembering how we looked at each other when I saw him on the street yesterday.

I had arrived at school and saw him during the morning assembly, but I tried to be discreet because I didn't want Alexia to start her usual comments.

During the recess, my friends and I sat on a bench, while he was at the football field. I stole glances at him from time to time. He was with his group, five boys including him. Most of the time, I saw him with one of them, the blond one with blue eyes.

When the bell rang for the third period, we went inside, and Alexia and I waited for our teachers. After a while, he came in too, talking with his blond friend, and my head turned towards them without me realizing it.

"I didn't say anything in front of the others, but don't think I haven't noticed" Alexia said.

"What?" I asked, surprised.

"I saw the way you were looking at him"

"Who?" I tried to act clueless.

"Come on, Nef... Who are you talking to? I know you very well, and that's why I'm worried" she said, her expression changing.

"Worried about what?"

"Never mind" she replied seriously.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue the conversation, but I did want to understand what she was talking about.

"Don't do this. When you start saying something, finish it" the tone in my voice was serious.

"I've just noticed that you like him. That's all" she walked into her classroom before I could respond.

I didn't understand why this worried her. I wondered where she was going with it.

When school ended after five periods, we all left together, and on the way, I paused when I realized he was in front of us again. I tried to act indifferent.

I had a class at five today, and after grabbing my bag and earbuds, I left the house. As soon as I stepped out of the building, I thought of him.

Maybe I'll see him....

I walked down the familiar sidewalk, but he was nowhere to be seen. My anxiety eased, and I continued my walk, now carefree. And then that knot in my stomach returned, because there he was, right in front of me, and his eyes met mine.

The distance between us decreased more and more as we walked toward each other. My gaze dropped in embarrassment, and when I looked up again, I saw him looking at me too.

When he finally passed by me, I looked down and let a smile escape my lips. I wanted so badly to get to know him, it was becoming unbearable.

September 16th

I was walking alongside him on the sidewalk, we were talking and laughing, he was looking into my eyes. He had such a beautiful smile.

"I have to go, sweetie, get up. You'll be late" my mom's voice sounded, waking me up.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!

After returning to reality, I wondered how I could dream of him when I didn't know anything about him.

I got ready for school and headed to Alexia's house. On the way there, I remembered today was Friday and I could finally dedicate some time to myself, apart from studying.

My positive thoughts were interrupted by a whistle behind me. I didn't pay attention, though I suspected who it might be.

The whistle came a second time, followed by a male voice. "You don't talk to us?"

"Good morning, doll" another said, and laughter followed, while I could recognize their voices.

I turned my head just enough to see how far away they were from me, and of course I confirmed my suspicions. It was Achilles, Michael, and Mark. The worst guys in school. And they're my age. The first two are in my class and all this started last year, but I've been ignoring them. I have no intention of giving them value.

"She's not talking to us, she's holding a grudge" Michael said sarcastically.

"You want something?" I briefly glanced at them and kept walking, my face showing clear indifference and harshness.

Achilles teased, laughing, "The little kitten is showing her claws" when Alexia's voice interrupted.

"You guys didn't score with the girls again, huh?" I burst out laughing with her, as we kept walking until we reached school, hearing various stupid things behind us that we ignored.

"Where do you come up with these?" I asked her, laughing.

"I don't know, I'm inspired by such lame guys. Who gives a shit about them? Not us!" Alexia said with determination.

That's how you deal with such jerks. They think they're all that and can say and do whatever they please. Someone needs to put them in their place.

We reached school and as soon as I saw him, the dream I had with him came to mind. The bell rang and we gathered for the assembly.

"Check him out" Alexia said, and I looked at her with a puzzled expression, before she discreetly pointed to the left, behind me.

I turned my head to see what she was indicating, before quickly turning back when I saw him already staring at me.

"Are you crazy?!" I asked her in a hushed voice, without looking at her.

"What?" she chuckled lightly.

"Why did you tell me to look??" the only thing keeping me from slamming her was the fear of drawing attention.

"Come on! I know you like it" she said as if nothing was wrong.

"He was staring at me, you idiot!" my tone increased, and Alexia looked at me strangely. I immediately understood why and gently placed my hand over my mouth before speaking.

"Tell me that wasn't loud... Please..." I wanted the ground to swallow me up.

"Oh God! He turned around! He's looking at you!!" she said in a frightened tone.

"You're kidding!!" I shouted much more terrified than her.

"You're so gullible!" she laughed so loudly that I'm sure she was heard, and I confirmed it when I heard the principal, Mr. Peterson, speaking.

"What's so funny? Tell us so we can laugh too"

I really wanted to disappear off the face of the Earth.

In front of three high school classes, he scolded us. And Alexia didn't stop; she just laughed more quietly.

"Cut it out!!" I said to her without looking, with clenched teeth to not show I was talking, nudging her with my elbow.

Fortunately, Mr. Peterson didn't continue, while Alexia did.

"I can't stop laughing!" she continued and the principal told us to go to our classes.

"Are you completely insensitive? He just scolded us in front of the whole school!" I shouted, annoyed.

"It was so funny when I told you he was looking at you and you practically screamed!" she continued to laugh.

"Yeah... I'm so funny. So funny!!" I shouted.

"Shh!! He might hear you..." she whispered sarcastically, and my eyes narrowed in anger.

I shouted, "I'll punch you in the face!" and stormed past her angrily toward my class.

Can someone tell me exactly why I'm still hanging out with her??...

Just before I entered my class, I saw him with his friend reaching their class, and it seemed he was saying something about me. Unfortunately, I figured this out as he was almost whispering into his ear while staring at me.

And then, once again, I wanted to disappear off the face of the Earth, but this time, I would take Alexia with me.
