November 20th

"Anyone who wants to join the sports teams, sign up at the office starting from the second recess" Mr. Peterson announced during the morning assembly.

"We're going, right?" Alexia asked, like it was a no-brainer.

"Of course! Volleyball" Evelyn replied.

By the second break, we had already headed to the office after telling the boys not to wait for us. The next day, practice began, and from then on, we spent every break at the volleyball court. A lot of people would sit on the marble benches, watching us play. The ball would often fly out of bounds, and we'd have to run after it. I rarely went though, because the others were quicker—until one time, a girl hit it out.

"Nefeli, can you grab it?" Dimitra asked me politely.

"Okay, okay, I'm on it" I ran after the ball and noticed someone had already picked it up. He turned to hand it back to me, and that's when I saw his face.

I tried to stay cool, but I won't lie, I was pretty nervous. He seemed a bit caught off guard to see me standing there too.

We just stared at each other while he held onto the ball.

"Uh..." was all I could manage to say, while a normal person would've just asked for the ball.

But he kept looking at me without reacting.

"Alex, the ball" his friend mumbled quietly.

"Oh, right. Here you go" he handed it to me.

"Thanks" I smiled before heading back to the volleyball court.

My legs felt like jelly. I thought I was going to collapse right then and there. I looked over at Alexia, who was already staring at me in disbelief.

Evelyn, of course, didn't catch on. All she knows is that I like someone, but not who.

_____
"If I hadn't told you to give it to her, you'd still be holding it"

"Shut up, dude" I snapped, looking away, embarrassed.

"What's the matter, bro? Feeling shy?" he got all up in my face, and I wanted to punch him.

"No"

"Yeah, right. Aren't you the one who said she's really pretty, but two years older and probably wouldn't even notice you?"

"Yeah, but when you told me to smile at her, she was staring right at me"

"You should be thankful you've got me around. With your approach, you're never even gonna hold her hand"

"Get off my shoulders, Stefan! Jeez. Why did I even tell you I kinda like her?" I started to walk away, frustrated, and heard him laughing behind me.

"Kinda?!"
_____

After practice, we headed to class. Alexia asked me what happened.

"I'll text you when I get home" I said, just as the teacher walked into my class, and I got up from the bench.

I was going to see him today. The thought alone had my nerves on edge.

When I got home, I texted Alexia and told her what happened.

Dummy <3
So if his friend hadn't reminded him about the ball, he'd still be staring at you 🤣 When you see him today, say something!

I only run into him on the street, Lexi. I can't randomly strike up a conversation

I left my building with my heart racing. After walking a few meters, I saw him from a distance. He saw me too. His head was held high, like it always was. Slowly, we got closer, until we were only a few feet apart.
