January 11th

The next morning, I woke up with my mind consumed by yesterday's visit from Max and the conversation we had.

When I got to school, I found the girls. After the morning assembly, we headed to our classrooms, and when the bell rang for the first break, I stepped out and saw Alex. Our eyes met, and he looked away, but I could still catch a small smile on his lips.

I went outside with Alexia, while the others hadn't shown up yet.

"Max came to my house yesterday" I blurted out, catching her off guard.

"Why? What happened?" she asked hesitantly.

"You know exactly what happened" I shot her an angry look. She avoided my gaze and hesitated to respond.

"I was worried... I'm sorry" she said, regretful.

My expression softened when I saw how upset she looked. "You should've told me"

"When? He messaged you afterward, so you would've figured out he found out"

"He didn't message me"

"What?" she was surprised.

"He went on Instagram to send me a message and saw our last conversation. He found out about Alex"

She stared at me in shock, speechless, in disbelief.

"Did you really have to give him your phone?" I asked, frustrated.

"I... I thought he'd send you an SMS"

"Stop, they're coming" I cut her off as I saw the others approaching us.

"What are the girls chatting about over here?" Evelyn asked cheerfully.

"Nothing much" I replied, since Alexia was in no shape to say anything.

"Ugh, Mrs. Dale almost gave me an hour-long detention" Andrés grumbled.

My eyes wandered to Max, and when he looked at me with those dark green eyes, I remembered everything we talked about yesterday. I just hope he didn't tell anyone.

I noticed Alexia's blue eyes guiltily darting over to Max, who glanced back at her as the others laughed and joked around.

During the next break, I headed to the bathroom first, and I saw Evelyn and Eliana walk in.

"Is something going on with you, Max, and Lexi?" asked the blonde, fixing her hair in the mirror.

"No, why?"

"I picked up on some strange looks" she said like a detective, and I told her nothing was happening before pulling them outside to the yard.

When the bell rang for the next break, I was late getting outside while most of the kids were already there. As I stepped out of the classroom, I heard a voice calling my name.

"Nefeli?"

I turned, and my heart started pounding immediately. It was Alex, walking toward me.

"Are you okay?" he asked, looking a little worried.

"I'm fine, why?" I asked, even though I knew I looked lost in thought.

"Are you sure? Sorry for pushing, it's just..." he stared at me with concern, and at that moment, I saw Max heading my way.

Damn it! If he sees me talking to him, he'll figure out he's the younger guy...

I panicked, brushed past Alex, and started walking toward Max, who was eyeing me as he made his way over.
