Chapter 7: School had been a preliminary test of abilities, a preview of what was to come.
As the second day dawned, I prepared for another round of challenges. The morning light filtered through my window, casting a cold, sharp glow over my sparse room. I gathered my things methodically, my mind already shifting to random thoughts.
Arriving at UA, I noticed the buzz of students around me, their excitement palpable. They were eager, hopeful, and perhaps a bit naive. I moved through the crowd with practiced ease, unnoticed and unremarkable. It was better this way.Class 1-A's homeroom was already bustling with energy when I arrived.
Conversations overlapped, creating a cacophony of voices. Katsuki Bakugo's explosive laughter echoed from one corner while his sister, Katsumi, discussed tactics with a few other students. Shoto and Shiori Todoroki sat together, quietly conversing and 'her' she was talking to a girl named uraraka and black haired glasses wearing boy called tenya Ida.
I took my seat at the back, maintaining my distance. Aizawa entered the room with his usual disinterested demeanor. "Settle down," he said, barely raising his voice. The room fell silent almost immediately, a testament to the respect he commanded. "Today, we'll be doing combat training. Suit up and meet me at Ground Beta."The anticipation in the room spiked, but I remained impassive.
Combat training was just another test, another opportunity to demonstrate skills. As the others chattered excitedly, I left the room and headed to the locker area to change into my hero suit.My hero suit was practical, designed for efficiency rather than style. Dark, muted colors that blended into the shadows, reinforced with lightweight armor for protection however it had some magic ability I found it gramps boxes it must've meant something important to him. It allowed for maximum mobility while providing essential defense. I slipped it on, each piece fitting perfectly, a second skin ready for battle.
Ground Beta was an expansive area designed to simulate urban environments. As we gathered, I noticed a figure standing at the center of the training field.
The symbol of peace himself, All Might, was there to oversee our combat training. His presence was both inspiring and infuriating. He was the hero everyone admired, but to me, he was the man who had abandoned his son."Young heroes!" All Might's voice boomed with enthusiasm. "Today, we'll be testing your combat abilities. You'll be paired up for a series of one-on-one matches. The goal is to either incapacitate your opponent or capture the designated target. Use your quirks wisely and show me what you're made of!"He called out the first pairings. Bakugo against Todoroki, a clash of powerhouses. Katsumi versus Shiori, a battle of precision and control.
My name came last, paired with Denki Kaminari. An interesting choice. It seemed All Might was testing more than just raw power.
The matches began, each one a display of strategy and strength. Bakugo and Todoroki's fight was intense, explosions and ice colliding in a spectacular show of force. Katsumi and Shiori's battle was a dance of agility and technique, each movement calculated and precise.
Finally, it was my turn. "Izuku Mori," All Might called. I stepped forward, feeling the weight of their stares. They didn't know what to expect. Good. That gave me the advantage.Denki Kaminari stood across from me, electricity sparking at his fingertips. He had a confident smile, clearly ready to show off his quirk. But confidence alone wouldn't win this match."Begin!" All Might's voice signaled the start. Kaminari immediately launched a surge of electricity towards me. I moved swiftly, dodging his attack with calculated precision. His quirk was powerful, but predictable. I closed the distance between us, my movements fluid and relentless. He tried to keep me at bay with another burst of electricity, but I anticipated his move. With a quick sidestep, I avoided his attack and lunged forward. My hand gripped his wrist firmly, disrupting his focus. "Stop," I said coldly. He looked up at me, surprised and slightly panicked. "I-I yield," he stammered, deactivating his quirk. I released him and stepped back, the match over as quickly as it had begun.
All Might nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Well done, both of you. Remember, combat isn't just about power. Strategy, adaptability, and precision are key."The rest of the matches continued, each one providing somewhat valuable insights. When the combat training ended, we returned to the classroom for a debriefing. All Might discussed our performances, pointing out areas for improvement and commendation. His feedback was direct, practical, and devoid of unnecessary praise. It was exactly what everyone else needed. For me it utter nonsense so I drowned it out.
As the day drew to a close, I packed my things and prepared to leave. The hallways were filled with students, their conversations a background hum. I moved through them, a silent observer, unnoticed and unremarkable.
While exiting the building, he noticed a group of students conversing quietly. Among them were Fumikage Tokoyami, Momo Yaoyorozu, Kojiro Shoji, and Kyoka Jiro. As he walked past, Tokoyami looked up, their eyes meeting briefly.
"You fought well today," Tokoyami said, his voice low and calm.
"Thanks," Izuku replied curtly, not stopping.
"Izuku, right?" Momo Yaoyorozu called out. She was accompanied by the others, and they seemed to be in the middle of an interesting conversation. "We were just talking about our lives outside of school. Would you like to join us?"
Izuku considered the invitation. He preferred to keep to himself, but forming alliances could be strategically beneficial. "Sure," he said, keeping his tone neutral.
The group found a quiet spot in the courtyard and settled down. Tokoyami's dark presence contrasted with Momo's composed elegance. Shoji's multiple limbs moved gracefully as he adjusted his seating, and Jiro's casual demeanor added a relaxed vibe to the group.
"So, what do you guys do when you're not here?" Jiro asked, plugging one of her earphone jacks into the ground and listening to the ambient sounds.
Momo smiled. "I spend most of my time studying or practicing my quirk. My family is very supportive, but they have high expectations."
Shoji nodded. "I enjoy being outdoors, especially hiking. It helps me stay in tune with my quirk and keeps me grounded."
Tokoyami's eyes gleamed in the fading light. "I train with Dark Shadow, honing our synchronization. It's essential to maintain balance."
Jiro smirked. "I play music. It's a great way to unwind and express myself."
They turned to Izuku, who shrugged slightly. "I train and read," he said simply. "There's always room for improvement."
The conversation continued, with the group sharing anecdotes and experiences. Izuku contributed sparingly, offering insights only when necessary. He found Tokoyami's perspective particularly interesting; the dark-haired student had a keen tactical mind.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the group began to disperse. "It was nice talking to you, Izuku," Momo said with a warm smile.
"Yeah, see you around," Jiro added, giving a casual wave.
"Take care," Tokoyami said, nodding slightly.
Shoji simply nodded in agreement, his quiet presence a comforting constant.
Back in my room, I reviewed the day's events, analysing my own performance. There was always room for improvement, always another level to reach. But having some people around isn't always a bad thing.
